Day After Thoughts, late

I was out of town until last night. Great weather Thursday where I was, but couldnt play golf because I wanted to watch football. What a damn lousy decision that was.

Its honestly hard to even get really mad anymore, because garbage like being down 28-3 at the half to a rookie QB without a ton of talent around him really DOESNT surprise me. The coaching of this team is so bad in so many areas, that the end results of the games now are almost a certainty. Right now, this team is one of the worst in football.

1) Romo racked up some impressive numbers and unlike the Browns game a few days earlier, the pass protection was pretty good most of the game. Unfortunately he had a couple of costly picks (one should have been negated by a penalty that was ignored however, on D Hall) and there was absolutely no run game to speak of (again). We had 22 first downs, only 1 was via the rush. Felix Jones led the rushers with 14 yds on 6 carries.

2) Dez Bryant had a fumble, although it was on a textbook hit by a Skins DB. We dont have anyone on our coaching staff who can coach people do do that unfortunately. Otherwise Bryant had another impressive performance and he came really close to an amazing 3rd TD that would have put us closer late. He seems to be turning into the player many thought he could be. Along with Murray and T Smith, he gives the next head coach and offensive staff something to really build around.

3) Why the hell hasnt Jeremy Parnell been starting ahead of Doug Free? What do these retards on our staff look at everyday? Parnell appeared to have a really solid game (again). How BAD does a player have to play here to warrant being benched? Ditto with why Dwayne Harris hasnt been getting all the 3rd WR snaps ahead of Ogletree lately.

4) As I have said numerous times this season, Rob Ryan is a joke as a coordinator. Thursdays performance was epic bad, and I have little doubt that he'll never get a DC job in the NFL after this season unless somehow his brother survives in NY and he hires him there out of stupidity and/or pity.

5) Anthony Spencer is quietly putting together a really nice yr, now that he is healthy again. He was credited with 10 tackles, 2 sacks and two passes defensed Thursday. He now has 6 1/2 sacks on the season. He's probably going to earn himself a really good long term contract in the offseason, but it probably wont be from us.

6) It seems like a weekly thing, but JFC this has been the worst season ever for injuries. If one counts Scandrick and O'Tree as starters (because they play so much in nickel/dime looks) then at the end of the game Thursday we were missing an incredible 11 starters (Austin, Tree, T Smith, Costa, Murray on offense, Ratliff, Coleman, Lee, Carter, Scandrick, Church on defense) from what we projected for our week one team. That doesnt even count all the other injured guys who have missed games here or there.

7) Notre Dame ILB Manti Te'o has more interceptions (7) in 12 games, than our entire team does all year in 11 games (5). More defense FAIL from Rob Ryan

8) I havent studied enough of the upcoming draft yet to have serious discussions, but I'd be quite happy getting both starting safeties from UGA and putting them out there from day one next year. Bacarri Rambo is going to be a bigtime ballhawk in the NFL. And he can hit too. I'd be quite happy with one or two of the interior OL's from Alabama as well.

9) 5 games left of the Jason Garrett era, take it to the bank. He's getting canned, along with hopefully all the rest of this staff.

Its debatable what he actually did or didnt do, he isnt a bad kid though. He said the pot he tested positive for was baked in some brownies, and whoever made them didnt let him know it was in there. He did appeal the suspension.

Well we've already heard the Mike Holmgren rumors. Andy Reid is getting run in Philly, Jones supposedly has alot of respect for him. Pretty sure Gruden's name will come up. Then there's Bill Cowher, who I dont really want but his name will probably get tossed around.

Holmgren's biggest issue is age, but he doesnt look as old as he is and might not be burned out like Parcells was. Still, you wonder how long he'd be here and he'd almost assuredly want to bring someone with him to hand the team over to after he was done. The guy he hired in Cleveland might be a possibility, as he is likely to get fired b their new owner after this season. Reid would be another possibility, those two are close but Reid will almost assuredly get head coaching offers next yr (if he wants to coach, he might prefer a year off)

The only college cach I think he'd seriously consider would be Saban, and you'd have to have a Jimmy II scenario unfold for that to happen I think. I'm sure Saban would demand complete control of FO, if he even wanted to coach in the NFL.

I dont think the next coach will be a Wade/Garrett/Gailey type hire either, it'll be a more proven name like Parcells was. Its that bad here. He wont have a choice.

I agree with this..The thing is will Opie give up the play calling? or will he walk? as much as I hate it he gives him 1 more year and makes someone else the scapegoat

Are you really saying this because you don't want to get your hopes up high, because deep down you relaly want Garrett gone like the rest of us? Hey man, I'm there with you. I share both your pessimism and dbair's optimism on Garrett's dismissal.

I think it will take the Cowboys to lose all the rest of the game from here on, and even then with the media calling for Garrett to be dismissed, I think that might make Jerry all the more entrneched in keeping him. If Garrett is to be fired, I think Stephen Jones is going to have to give Jerry a push. On the other hand... Jerry likes to make a splash, and after a season like this, he sure will be looking to make one and what bigger splash can there be than hiring Sean Payton?

The playcalling alone is NOT the sole problem. It's also the total lack of discipline. Garrett has lost this team; the players are not connecting with him. That has nothing to do with playcalling. You can turn over the playcalling, but the players will still remain just as undisciplined and have a lack of focus.

Never said it was, but even Jimmy Johnson says that Red has too much on his plate these days. And Jerry would be much more inclined to blame Red's workload as opposed to his shitty drafts and FA acquisitions.

I'm saying it because Jerry wanted Jason to be his coach for years. He's finally got him. He's comfortable with him.

It's on thing to miss that in training camp, I get that. But to stick your thumb up your ass as your QB is getting killed is honestly infuriating. We're at least 6-5 if Parnell took over early in the season . And hey, guess what, if Parnell played poorly then you still gave Free, you have shitiness to fall back on. i'm with mid, I don't see it. They'll find a scapegoat. It can't be Joe D since he hasn't pressed hard with lawsuits, it might honestly be injuries and the miles cap hit
