IRVING — The Cowboys have high hopes for undrafted free agent Ronald Leary, the offensive guard from Memphis whom they targeted as a mid-round draft pick in April but shied away from because of his degenerative left knee disorder.

Leary said he had no problems with his knee – he doesn’t even wear a brace – during the three pre-training camp practices this week at Valley Ranch. But he wasn’t exactly thrilled with his performance. Asked if he was pleased with his progress so far, Leary said, “No, not at all.

“I hold myself to a real high standard, so I’m never pleased with what I do. I still have a lot of stuff to work on with my pass-blocking, just technique-wise. I just need to put it all together.”

Leary has a condition called osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) that causes the bone that supports the cartilage to soften because of a discontinuation of blood flow to that area.

“My knee is perfect, 100 percent,” he said. “There is nothing wrong with my knee. I feel great. My knee feels fine.”

Guess he'd know better than those damned highly educated and trained doctors.

Actually it probably does feel fine now, he just won't have any kind of a long career because that cartilage will wear off and he'll be bone on bone. (Don't know why George would say he had no brace - that's just for instability which he doesn't have.) But until then he should be okay. Which is why this was such a good sign... Even if you only get two or three years out of him, nothing wrong with that.
