The morning after making a blockbuster trade to draft LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne, the Dallas Cowboys are shopping the player he is expected to replace.
The Cowboys are in discussions to trade cornerback Mike Jenkins, a source with knowledge of the Cowboys' plans said Friday.
In the final year of his contract, Jenkins is looking for a long-term deal in a secondary that already includes high-priced players like Brandon Carr (five years, $50 million) and Orlando Scandrick (five-year extension for $27 million). With the addition of Claiborne, Jenkins is expendable.
Vice president of player personnel Stephen Jones said Thursday night the team would like to keep Jenkins but that his future is "something we'll have to decide." Trying to gain back a draft pick after losing a second-round pick in the Claiborne trade, it sounds like they've decided.
