This is Basically what Middy said in The right kind of guys thread, with a couple different observations.

There is no truth to the rumor that the Dallas Cowboys are changing their logo from the star to a red flag but the NFL’s pre-Fourth of July news dump sure had a distinctive tint to it and it was the silver and blue of Jerry Jones’ team. The headline on Thursday was that talented linebacker Rolando McClain was popped for 10 games after his latest losing battle with the league’s substance-abuse policy and that big right to the jaw was followed by the left cross of confirmation that edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence would miss the first month of the season due to his own SA issues after an appeal was denied.
Heck, even some of the other family business being settled out of Park Avenue had a Cowboys connection because if it wasn’t for Stephen Jones basically tackling his father during the 2014 draft, Johnny Manziel would have called North Texas home and unleashed the F5 tornado that in his life on Dallas, something that resulted in a four-game suspension despite the fact that the former Texas A&M star is currently unemployed.
And even a former Cowboy got in on the act Thursday as C.J. Spillman, a one-time safety and special teams player with the ‘Boys, was convicted of sexual assault stemming from an incident in September of 2014.
The list of embarrassments hardly ends there for Dallas, however, as another edge player, Randy Gregory, is also suspended for four games as he continues to struggle with marijuana addiction, and the team’s high-profile flyer on domestic-violence pariah Greg Hardy last season came up snake eyes thanks to Hardy’s unbearable personality.
At some point Jones and the Cowboys need to revisit their penchant for reckless decision-making and pay more attention to the off-the-field habits of their players.

And that’s no moral judgement, it’s a football one.
This isn’t about right or wrong, whether you are conservative or liberal, or whether you believe people should get second and third chances.
When you forget out about any of the soap boxes, agendas or activism and examine things from that football perspective, the stark reality is that if a player isn’t available to go between the lines on game day, what good are they to Jason Garrett or any other coach?
There’s an old cliche in this game when it comes to injuries: “you can’t make the club if you’re in the tub.”That speaks to the fact that you need to be available to get on the field and if you can’t, your value to any organization is going to drop significantly.
Criticizing or disagreeing with the NFL’s CBA and how tough on it is on weed use or anything else for that matter is inconsequential. The rules here are clearly spelled out and if an athlete can’t abide by them and isn’t available for large portions of the season, it’s counterproductive to build your roster by counting on them. There are no crystal balls and no one can predict future behavior at a 100 percent clip but actively jumping into the pool head first with people who have a checkered history is actively courting potential problems.
Jerry Jones’ Cowboys have spent far too much time on social experiments in recent years and need to get back to worrying about football.

Agree wholeheartedly, this goes for injury prone players as well. I love Sean Lee, but the guy can't play a full season, Hell, he can't play 3/4 of a season. And now we use a 2nd on a guy that won't play this year and if he doesn't start getting feeling back to the nerves in his leg real soon, may never play. Tired of that shit. It would be different if they would do this every so often, but EVERY year 2nd round goes to either a Tight End or some player that can't stay healthy or has various issues with drugs or the law. I mean when the draft comes along, I know who our 2nd rounder will be before the 1st round is over, by just looking for who is injured or a druggie that dropped out of the 1st round.

Not going to happen. Jerry wants to always go for the homerun in any draft or free agent.

Hasn't worked out too well for him for the last 20 years...

Surprise

Marijuana addiction? C'mon, now.

But, the article is dead on. This is like the 90's Cowboys without all the talent.
