IRVING -- While Cowboys coach Jason Garrett expressed that he was glad to see Mike Jenkins' at the team's mandatory mini-camp on Tuesday, he seems to have grown tired of answering questions about the cornerback, his absence at voluntary workouts and his impending future with the club.

"We can keep talking about Jenkins all day long," Garrett said with a measure of frustration. "The situation is that Mike Jenkins chose not to be part of the voluntary offseason program. Now he is back for the mandatory part...He has a role on our football team. He is part of our team. He had done good things for team the past few years. We anticipate him getting back and be part of what we are doing this year.

Jenkins, who is still recovering from surgery on his right shoulder that he underwent in January, did not participate in practice Tuesday. But he remains at the forefront of the conversation about the Cowboys.

"At the end of the day, we're all men and we've got to make decisions based on our future and our family's future," Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears said. "Mike is doing what he has to do and I'm pretty sure the Cowboys are doing what they have to do. It's really not my place to comment on anything other than that. I was just happy to see him back today. He's a friend of mine. You miss your guys when they're not around."

And Jenkins, when he was gone, was not forgotten. Garrett said he maintained a dialogue with the cornerback during his self-imposed exile from Valley Ranch and never felt there was any tension underlying those discussions.

"We don't see it as a big deal," Garrett said. "He will not be able to practice anyway. We will try to coach him as best we can in the rehab phase...We are focused on the guys that are here. When he is here we are focused on him. We feel he has a role for our football. We just need to get him healthy and get him going again and see how he fits into the mix."
