Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick did not attend the opening session of the team's offseason workout program Monday according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

It is not a big deal as the strength and conditioning program is voluntary but Scandrick is likely making statement with his absence. The 28-year-old Scandrick is due to make only $1.5 million this season and is coming off a tremendous season that saw him finish as a top-10 corner. Star wideout Dez Bryant was also a no-show as expected as he has not yet signed his franchise tag tender. Both players reportedly hate coach Garrett.

Cowboys need to rework Scans contract.

Its not about hating Garrett, its about money. (i assume that was an add-on)

This kind of thing is exactly why I think this could be our 2010. Team has one good year and everyone thinks they have it all figured out and focus on other things, like their money.

Not that other teams don't have to deal with these situations, but we aren't used to it like, say, the Patriots.

Just another reason why last year could have been a big missed opportunity.

Scandrick has gotten two new deals since his rookie one. Wasnt his new deal reworked again last yr or the year before last?

He's not in a situation like say, Russell Wilson. Someone who vastly out performed a rookie deal and is stuck in it.

He's only making 1.5 mil, which is vastly underpaid, rookie deal or not.

Plus that stiff Carr is making, what, 7 or something? That would have to sting.

His base salary was reduced when he redid his last contract I would assume.

IIRC he signed a contract extension several years ago, then signed a restructred deal a yr or so ago. I believe he is signed through 2017 or 2018 now.

He got a signing bonus and a restructure bonus. He has no business holding out.

If he didn't like the deal he shouldn't have signed it.

He's the best CB on our team, but that's not saying a lot. He is NOT an elite player and he has never been a playmaker. He's had 7 CAREER interceptions and has hit double digit passes defensed just once.

He's a nice player, but he isn't an elite one and should not be paid like one.

He is out playing his contract. If he doesnt play up to his contract, they cut him. He should be paid like the best defensive player on the team, which he is. The guy plays arguable the hardest position on the field, slot corner. Isnt injured often. Not afraid to tackle. Is a leader. On Sunday, he is one player i dont worry about. He comes to play.

Like I said. He is a solid player, not a great one.

He willingly signed a contract extension and then signed a restructured deal with another extension.

I'm sure he and his agent feel with the Cowboys issues at CB that he has them right where he wants them to force a new deal, but Scandrick is not a player that cant be replaced.

I'd also argue he is NOT the best defensive player on the team. If Sean Lee is on the field, he is by far the best player on the defense. If Greg Hardy is on the field, he's a better player than Scandrick and can make a far bigger impact on games. If Crawford stays healthy, he's also a more impactful player than Scandrick.

Slot corners are not easy to replace. Lee cant stay healthy and i thought the guys that replaced him last year did a pretty good job. Hardy hasnt played a down with the Cowboys yet so lets wait on that one. Crawford is ok, i thought he vanished at times.

Hardy is a probowl/all pro calibar pass rusher that culd start for just about any 4-3 team in football.

Scandrick is not.

Lee is an all pro calibar LB and makes a ton of plays when he is out there.

Scandrick is not.

Scandrick is a nice player, but he is not the best or most talented player on the defense by a long stretch IMO

Crawford was coming off a major injury and looked pretty damn good a lot of the yr. At times he was unblockable and just missed getting quite a few sacks with guys throwing the ball away. He has the look of a very good 3 tech in this scheme.

You're underestimating Scandrick. He's pretty damned good.

And yeah, Lee is a beast when out there. But he's about a 50/50 player as far as healthy/injured.

Wouldnt you think "pretty damned good" CB's have more than 7 picks in 7 yrs and have more than just oen yr with double digit passes broken up?

If it came down to investing alot of $$$$ to keep him happy longterm or use that cash elsewhere, I'd say use it elsewhere.

If he is really unhappy about his deal, while it would put us in somewhat of a bind I'd think about trading him now while he has some value.

Again I dont hate the guy, he is a solid player but he is not an elite player.

I think some Cowboy fans overstate his level of play simply because they compare it to Carr and Claiborne.

Considering our lack of passrush and shot safety play, I'm not too broken up about his only having 7 picks.
