Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne said today that he expects to play in Sunday’s game against New Orleans after sitting out the team’s 27-24 victory over Pittsburgh because of a concussion.
Claiborne, a rookie who started in the team’s first 13 games, said he passed the final necessary concussion test before the game but was held out for precautionary reasons.
“I was still having symptoms later on in the week. So we just wanted to be safe instead of sorry,” said Claiborne, who last experienced dizziness at Thursday’s practice. “I tested before the game (and passed). But we still thought it was better idea to just try to sit this one out.”
Asked if he plans to return to the lineup against the Saints, Claiborne said: “Yeah. I’m feeling good.”
Claiborne also felt good about the way his teammates rallied for a victory despite a patchwork defensive lineup against the Steelers. Because of injuries, Dallas played without six of its normal defensive starters but received key contributions from multiple role players.
“We’ve just got to keep pushing, keep going forward. Any guys that we put in, we’ve got to expect those guys to go out and produce,” Claiborne said.
But the biggest play came from fellow cornerback Brandon Carr, whose interception in overtime set up the game-winning field goal.
“It was a great play,” Claiborne said of Carr’s interception. “He sat on it, read it perfectly and came up with the interception. I just wish he could have got in the end zone.”
Did Claiborne give him grief for getting tackled at the 1-yd line?
“Yeah, I did,” Claiborne said.
