One more preseason game to go and with the starters expected to play some Thursday against Miami that means fewer snaps for the backups and rookies to get a chance to make a final splash.
The final cut came down to Sam Hurd vs. Barry Church vs. Bryan McCann vs. the 10th offensive linemen vs. the seventh defensive linemen.
I couldn't remove the economics from the discussions, Hurd was No. 54. I went with McCann over Church for the last defensive back spot, however, shaky that may seem. And I went with 10 offensive linemen and seven defensive linemen, opening a spot for Junior Siavii.
Here we go (bold means change from the last prediction):
QB (3) - Tony Romo , Jon Kitna, Stephen McGee
No changes from the last time, but if there are injuries in the final preseason game I can see them talking about McGee and hoping to get him through to the practice squad.
RB (4) - Marion Barber, Felix Jones , Tashard Choice, Deon Anderson
I went back to Anderson because I think he's better at the point of attack than Chris Gronkowski. For the running game, I think it's important to have Anderson's strength, especially behind this offensive line. But I wouldn't rule out keeping two fullbacks just yet.
WR (5) - Miles Austin , Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, Dez Bryant, Kevin Ogletree
I tried to do what I could to keep Sam Hurd on the roster. I really did but I can't keep a sixth wideout. I understand the special teams' implications, especially after a previous post today but not for that price. So far nothing from St. Louis or other WR starved teams looking for some help.
TE (3) - Jason Witten, Martellus Bennett , Martin Rucker
Same as last week but Rucker is not a lock. He's done a decent job in his short time with the team but they might want more of a blocker for the No. 3 tight end role.
OL (10) - Doug Free, Kyle Kosier, Andre Gurode , Leonard Davis, Marc Colombo, Alex Barron , Montrae Holland , Sam Young, Phil Costa, Robert Brewster
Young's preseason is over because of a sprained MCL suffered Saturday but I think he makes it to the active roster. They like his potential and he would be a gameday inactive anyway. I'm sticking with 10 guys but I don't know if Brewster and/or Costa are locks. Maybe they look at some other teams' cuts for a more proven backup center.
DL (7) - Marcus Spears , Jay Ratliff , Igor Olshansky, Jason Hatcher, Stephen Bowen, Junior Siavii, Josh Brent
Siavii is back on the roster. Wade Phillips has raved about his play and he is a big body that can plug the middle when they want to give Ratliff some rest. The run defense has been shaky the last few weeks so getting Spears back for the opener will help.
OLB (4) - DeMarcus Ware , Anthony Spencer, Victor Butler, Brandon Williams
Williams has not turned it on during the games yet, which makes me wonder if he could be more of a bubble guy than we've previously thought. Steve Octavien brings more for special teams than Williams too, but it's hard to get rid of pass rush potential.
ILB (4) - Bradie James , Keith Brooking, Sean Lee, Jason Williams
James and Brooking might have to play more snaps than last year with the Cowboys still figuring out the best ways to use Lee and Williams. Leon Williams is still in the mix but he's caught in a numbers' game right now.
CB (5) - Terence Newman , Mike Jenkins , Orlando Scandrick, Cletis Gordon, Bryan McCann
I've decided to put McCann on the roster because of his return ability and speed as a gunner. Right now it's between him and Barry Church for that final DB spot and I went with the SMU kid this time.
S (5) - Gerald Sensabaugh , Alan Ball, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Danny McCray, Mike Hamlin
I dropped Church this time through and I wonder if they hope to get him on to the practice squad. Sensabaugh should be back for the opener with a shoulder injury.
Specialist (3) - David Buehler, Mat McBriar, L.P. Ladouceur
Buehler has gone two straight games without a field goal attempt but he's been good in practice the last week or so. I think they want to keep him on edge through the final cuts so he doesn't exhale.

~Looks over at Midswat~ Hmmm, McCann could make this team afterall.
