New York Giants defensive end Chris Canty spent his first four NFL seasons with the Cowboys. For three of those, Tony Romo was the starting quarterback. Since signing as a free agent with the Giants, Canty has been paid to chase Romo around.

Those circumstances make Canty an ideal source to discuss the pressure that’s on Romo to win a Super Bowl with the Cowboys. While some say the Cowboys’ failure to make noise in the postseason is because of the talent around Romo, Canty made a case for putting the blame squarely on Romo’s shoulders.

“Romo’s a tremendous quarterback, statistically he’s a top five quarterback, that’s undeniable,” Canty said Tuesday on ESPN’s SportsNation. “At the end of the day, in the clutch situations, he hasn’t performed as well as you would like him to. I think ultimately, that’s been the difference between their franchise and the Giants ability to be successful.”

The 29-year-old, who was proudly sporting his recent Super Bowl ring, was then asked if he feels as if he can force Romo into mistakes when the Giants face the Cowboys.

“Absolutely. Absolutely,” Canty responded. “Obviously, when you put pressure on any quarterback you can cause mistakes. I think Romo has been prone to make mistakes in the clutch situations and his team has not been able to be successful because of it.”

So was Michael Irvin accurate when he recently said Romo replaces LeBron James as the American athlete under the most pressure?

“Regardless of LeBron James, there’s a tremendous amount of pressure on Tony Romo,” Canty said. “As the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, it’s one of the most visible franchises in sports in the world.

“Obviously, if you want to enjoy some of the benefits of being the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, you got to perform like it on the field. Thus far, he hasn’t has the success that the fans and his teammates have hoped for.”

So a player on our defense when the Giants beat us in 2007 on their way to winning the Super Bowl is placing the blame on someone else? Hilarious.

no kidding. They gave up two absurd mental breakdown drives in that game that resulted in touchdowns especially the one before the half.

and how dumb is canty, he is taken off the field in passing situations. Its not new though, he did an interview with brian custer on fox sports ny about a month after being signed. Brian custer used to work for cbs 11 and he was trying and trying to get canty to say bad things about ware and romo. Canty shit on romo then and said tuck was better than ware.

He is an asshole but because he won a superbowl he can say what he wants. But now for no reason other than romo's names draws ratings this will be a huge story, and of course none of the other big name players here will stick up for romo. Ware, hatcher, spears, witten all are on twitter all the time and I can almost guarantee none of them will stand up for him.

I have to bring this back out cause I hate this fucker.

He has 0 class. I remember him picking a fight with Tyron Smith last year at our place. Maybe we can take his knee out next time.

I will say this though... I miss all the plays he used to make for us.

And he's really earned every penny of his paycheck in New York.

I'll never understand why Jerry keeps some players and lets others walk. He let's Randall Godfrey leave because he "wants too much money" but then a year later signs Dexter Coakley for the exact same amount. We are constantly resigning players who don't deserve contracts and then letting others leave who then become solid players for other teams.

I'll be glad when he dies.

j/k...I guess

I remember watching the 2005 draft and us taking Ware and Spears in the first, and then when we took Canty in the fourth, I was all like "Another DE???"

And now I understand.

I wish we'd dedicate more resources on keeping fresh bodies in the trenches.

Apparently he felt the need to say jpp is better than ware also.....just like last time when he said tuck was better.

It drives me crazy that spare part players in ny get to talk about our guys like this because they were along for the ride to a championship.

Can we just beat this god damn team already.

He made a few plays for us and I thought he was a solid player. I haven't really kept up with him since he left.

Been injured a lot. Coming off knee surgery as we speak. Like Bowens, I wasn't exactly crushed when Jerry refused to pay him.

here is the first time this moron went after ware and romo. think about that, chris canty gets to trash talk ware and romo. And the topic stays about romo nationally, the thought that hey its chris friggin canty making these comments never crosses anyones mind.

now he is doing it again. We need to beat these guys and win this division this year.

hopefully the team will take this stuff and use it, but that has never worked in the past so who knows.

canty mocking wares sack celebration also bugs me. I really need to make that giants cowboys rivalry video i have always wanted to show where all the nonsense comes from. Of course they keep beating us 7-2 with two championships so at this point it doesnt really matter anyway.

These guys always got shit to say when theyre gone. Bennett and Laurent I'm sure are next

That's why I'm not married to every single player. Once they're gone you can see more clearly that they're dickheads.

bennett will for sure. I imagine he will go all in on romo. He is buddies with choice and they were all taught the nfl by asshole owens. basically what they learned is blame your shortcomings on the better players because people want to have reasons to dislike a guy like romo.

so no doubt bennett will be running his mouth, and as always instead of questioning bennett the media will take what he says as golden and then go after romo.

I dont think there is anyway robinson will say a bad word about romo. they seemed to have a great relationship, robinson was always out there early in warmups with romo and they were always talking and stuff. thats not common here.

we just have to beat them. Spoiling there party on the 5th would be a huge win and a huge momentum swing. In fact I will go on record and say that if we beat them we start out 4-0. It could lead to a season like 07. And if we start fast with the home games we have late it could be huge.

by the way, remember when the giants were so mad and disrespected because the nfl, nbc and jerry wanted the giants as the cowboys first home game because of the talent and the rivalry.....remember how mad they were....

now we are breaking recent tradition by starting the season in ny when it should be san francisco or another playoff team. I bet no one will mention that here. the ny media is brilliant at playing the crowd against Dallas everytime we play them, its the only week they really dont go after there own team.

This is exactly why you don't sign players like TO or draft players like Bennett, Choice, and Canty.

I did not expect Jerry to know that after 22 years though because he's the worst GM in the NFL.

I think all these receiver types are such egotistical shittalkers that they can't not have someone to blame for their lack of production. Since Owens was the godfather can't blame him, so of course it's rooms fault "I was open man".

That and they're told they're stars from day 1.

The defense is delusional. They have to go back on the field one time and they throw a bitch fit. Roethlisberger choked in the Super Bowl but you saw how james harrison threw him under the bus.
