He'd be a perfect fit. He'll be here maybe 2-3 years, aka all the time Romo has left. And it'd be hard to find a better coach to identify and groom our next QB.

Plus, he's not Garrett. Basically anyone not Garrett = perfect fit IMO.

If you are going to make the move, make it count. Garrett is awful, Holmgren is better, but he's not going to change the tone of this organization or be able to handle Jerry. At this point in his career, he's basically an offensive-minded Wade Phillips. Pass.

Why do you say that, cmd? He may be too old now, I don't know. But he has enough skins on the wall to not have to let Jerry push him around like some young first-timer might.

I don't like the age part, but he's coached two different teams to Super Bowls. No non-sense discipline type that this team sorely needs.

Wade is and always has been a softee. Holmgren has always been regarded as a hardass and stickler for details.

I think Holmgren was the last in the line of Bill Walsh's innovative approach to offense and teambuilding of the 80s. I think the game has passed him by. I have also seen and heard him say things that made me feel he was desperate for one last HC gig and that he would love to work with Jerry. Personally, I don't want anyone who is already conceding Jerry that is working "with" you.

I think Holmgren would come in and change some things but at the end of the day, he's too old to fight off Jerry's meddling and it would be a half-ass version of the Holmgren of 15 years ago.

I agree... but ultimately that's the best that we are going to get. No HC who will come in here and put Jerry in his place will ever be hired. In order to get this job, even if you've got skins on the wall, you have to agree to give 53.25% of the credit for any success to Jerry -- see Parcells' contract.

I wish there was a HC hired who could stand up to the GM's meddling... unfortunately the GM hires the HC, and the GM has the ultimate job security.

I still feel like a guy with a dynamic enough personality and a history of success in the league could skillfully work with Jerry well enough to make it work, especially if Jerry respected him enough coming in. Someone like a Jon Gruden could talk Jerry into things and maybe even convince him they were Jerry's ideas. Holmgren doesn't seem as charismatic as Gruden but he's had even more success as a coach, so maybe he could do something similar.

I'd trust that over an Adam Gase or someone who would just be happy to have a HC job and would probably be more likely to go along with what Jerry wants.

We don't need a old ass like Holmgren, we have Coach Process!

I'm not as sold as Jerry is that we're that close, but I think a rookie coach; even one with some NFL coaching experience, isn't going to do be the best fit for us if we're going to continue to feature Romo and his salary as the centerpiece of our team.

So Holmgren may be just what the doctor ordered. But we're not moving on from Garrett and he'll likely sign on with San Fran.

I think he would be perfect for the time being until Romo retires
