Can Dez carry this team?

There isn't much reason for optimism in big D. However, one of, if not the biggest bright spots on this team is the emergence of Dez. Is it possible that Dez gets to the point where he is just so damn good that he takes this team over the top?

IMO, that's this teams best hope. If it's not possible, we are probably drawing dead this season

No matter how good Dez is, WR isn't a position that lends to that. They are way too easy to take out the game if you are determined to.

But then that's not really Dez carrying the team IMO.

But if that's what you're getting at, I do think the threat of Dez can take us over the top. He's terrifying, and electrifying, and he gets the whole goddam team amped. Him and Murray both, like Barber used to back in the day. Get them the ball early and often, let them get their teammates into the game, you always see a difference.

side point, one of my favorite parts about Dez is that he never quits working and he never pouts. If Romo's over there talking to him, he's nodding you can tell how much he respects him. If he hasn't caught a ball through three quarters he seems just as into the game as if he caught ten in the first half.

I guess technically it would be a combination of guys.

But overall, it's branching off from dez skyrocketing.

I'm talking like 1500 and 15 TDs

Why no optimism?

Why would Dez have to carry the team?

I love how hard Dez plays but he needs to stop taking unnecessary hits.

As far as carrying the team, no, but he'll help out as much as any one player can.

I just feel like we haven't made enough changes for this team to be vastly improved.

I do feel confident that Dez will be significantly better and consistent..so I feel like he could be our difference maker.

Something has to change...otherwise the results wont

too many weapons where he doesn't have to.

What the GM doesn't understand is the two major issues that keep us from putting away games. Better interior OL (not just Center) so that you can convert tough third downs and keep drives going AND better deep coverage to keep big plays (quick scores) from happening so often, especially at the end of games. Everyone gets burnt but our safeties not only get burned they're usually nowhere near the ball and looking around for someone to blame.

Dez is a great weapon to have but he can't convert 3rd and inches too many times nor should he have to.

I agree with SP that Dez being incredible wouldn't push us over the top alone. Just look at how many great receivers toil on bad teams. Calvin Johnson, for one.

Still.... he's such a force to be reckoned with, I think his presence alone adds about 2-3 wins each year.

In other words, I really think we're a 5 win team without him last year.

Just look at some of the ridiculous catches he had late in games last year to bring us to victory.

Andre Johnson carried the Texans last year. Or maybe "carrying" is not the right word. A running back like Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson or Frank Gore could; Peyton Manning and Drew Brees have. But those are players with immediate access to the ball. A WR has to allow a lot of contingencies and variables to take place before even getting a chance to run with the ball.

If Dez were used in short pass and end arounds so that the defense had to worry about Dez as almost a receiving RB on every down, then he might be in position to "carry" the team.

Something has to be different this year. At least if we are going to do anything different than 8-8. Dez is our best bet
