IRVING, Texas -- Mackenzy Bernadeau has taken snaps at center for the first time, which is a sign the Dallas Cowboys could be looking to alter the amount of offensive linemen they carry on the game-day roster.
Bernadeau started two games at center last year when Ryan Cook suffered a knee injury. He started 16 games at right guard over the past two seasons, but split time with Brian Waters last week at Kansas City. Coach Jason Garrett said the goal is to play Waters more Sunday against the St. Louis Rams depending on how the veteran works through practice.
The Cowboys have dressed eight offensive linemen in each of the first two games with backups Jermey Parnell, Waters and Phil Costa as the backups against the Chiefs. Costa could be the odd-man out with Bernadeau taking center snaps this week.
“It’s always a little bit of a transition, just getting used to the steps and technique and stuff that doesn’t come along with practice,” Bernadeau said. “I’ve felt like ever since I came into the league my job has always been to know the inside three spots, so it’s just getting back into it.”
