Morris Claiborne knows Giants will test him
September, 2, 2012
By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas – So much of the story surrounding Morris Claiborne during the offseason was the wrist injury that kept him out of the organized team activities and minicamp and the knee sprain that knocked him out for a few days of training camp.

With the New York Giants on the horizon Wednesday, there is no such talk surrounding the Cowboys’ first-round pick these days.

Now it’s about football.

“Oh, yeah, I believe so,” Claiborne said when asked if he was ready. “I’ve been preparing for this moment. It’s slowly getting here.”

Going against Giants receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks, Claiborne knows he has to be ready for Eli Manning to look at the rookie cornerback.

“I know they’re coming,” Claiborne said. “It’s just up to me to prepare myself the way I’ve been preparing to be ready for that.”

He's a rookie and he'll make mistakes, but at least he's not going to concede completions in the same way as Campo's CBs.

henry, williams, newman and scandrick all knew that in the past also but could do nothing to stop it.

For whatever reason we have never been able to stop that big post route down the middle. They beat parcells defense with it, wade phillips defense and last year they beat rob ryans.

I have no idea how we always give up the same exact play but I would love to see it end with claiborne and carr wednesday.

1) The Campo Cushion. Our cornerbacks were either coached or allowed to start out with a very big cushion. Whether the strategy was "keep the play in front of you" or we just didn't have faith in our CB's athleticism, we were playing/coaching scared.

2) Nonathletic and slow reacting safeties. Also, very little fear or respect for those safeties.

I have seen carr and claiborne playing way off this camp and preseason....Doesnt the play call and strong/weak side of the alignment dictate who can press and who needs to be off?

I think people are under the assumption we are going to press every down or something. We have played off a lot this summer.

now clearly its going to be different than campos playing the man style but still, no team can just press......

It's by design. It's anticipation and playcalling. You don't have to press all the time but you can't just concede every play like we have in the past. Plus, having a safety either athletic enough to jump in front of the deep post OR physical enough to punish WR's will cut down on teams willingness to keep running that deep post on us.

Let's just pretend that Nicks is not 100% and has a marginal game on Wed.

Just a feeling that I have based on His situation.

How hard could it be to slow down that offense if this is the situation?

still very hard, manning is excellent, they have two good backs and nicks or no nicks they have 5 wr to throw the ball to, plus bennett you know will be a point of emphasis.

For whatever reason. I feel like both offenses will be shut down.

I'm expecting a low scoring game.

My concern would be the replacement refs. They seem to be calling ticky-tacky PI penalties. On the flip side, Romo should throw deep, early and often.

if we have time with our new running game I would imagine we throw down the field a lot this year like in 07.

but this week, that might be too much to ask.
