IRVING, Texas -- When the Cowboys drafted defensive end Tyrone Crawford, he was listed as 285 pounds. In the team’s media guide he is listed at 285 pounds.

On Friday the Cowboys’ third-round pick said he weighs 290 pounds.

“The target they have for me is 295,” said Crawford, who said the biggest he has been is 293 pounds at Boise State. “But I’m comfortable at 290 and I feel like I’d be comfortable at 295, but we’ll see.”

Crawford missed most of the offseason workouts because of a calf injury but was able to take part in the three-day pre-camp session at Valley Ranch without any issue. He was one of the more impressive players and showed the ability to rush the passer from inside and outside.

“I bulked up and got the scheme down, great coaching,” Crawford said, “so I feel like we’re doing well and I’m doing well.”

The next test comes in Oxnard, Calif., in pads against more veteran players. Crawford has not been in pads since the East-West Shrine Game leading up to the draft.

“It’s going to feel good,” Crawford said. “Us on the line, that’s what we like to do. I know the secondary and guys like that don’t like to be in pads, but we’re bangers down there in the trenches, so that’s what we enjoy

Hope Lissemore or Crawford step their game up and win a starting spot opposite Hatcher

starting spot is really not an issue....

we play different looks up front and these two guys will probably play in all of them except the times we play a true 34 with the nose in the middle......

True but Spears and Coleman are limited to run def. That is a big weakness. If Ryans def needs pressure to be effective then a different player with different skills needs to be playing rather than a big body who can only maintain ground to stop the run.

yep and coleman is the better strong side run defender when they are in the true 34 base defense.

Camp is going to be interesting....spears needs a real good one.

If Dallas was playing the traditional 3-4 id be all on spears side but the def has changed and he just isnt a good fit for it anymore.

yeah he is not a strong side guy. Coleman is and that is where the competition is going to come from this camp....

can one of the younger guys hold up on the strong side in the 34 base and play the run or are they stuck with coleman....

if none of them can I think coleman stays and spears goes.
if somebody pops up and can play the run efficiently coleman goes and spears stays.

Would Lissemore start opposite Hatcher?

I thought he was a RDE behind Hatcher on the depth chart, and Spears/Coleman were LDE's.
