Anyone else think we trade back a lot this draft?

Not going to start the salary cap discussion again.... but it is the basis for this thought.

We have cap concerns. A lot of money tied up in a few players.

I really don't think Jerry & Steve want to walk out of this draft with only 6 new players.

Anyone else think we could trade back in this draft multiple times?

I'm thinking we walk away with about 10 players from rounds 2-7.

Oh I see. Dismiss my trade back mocks and then create a thread talking about it

Not really.

Jerry has said this would be a scouts draft and the coaches would have less say this year.

I imagine they take the bpa in each round unless geno smith or Matt Barkley are sitting there and someone has to have him and the jump from the second round back to the first and give us a 1 for next year.

Otherwise I kind of think maybe the only move back we see could be in the third or fourth round when they try to recoup the missing pick. And this probably won't happen unless they feel there are a number of players with the same ability so they are are comfortable with what they get when they move back.

That 09 draft of moving around for no reason really probably has put the brakes on moving back just for picks.

I only dismissed it because it gets a fans hopes up. Also, it's near impossible to be anything close to accurate on a standard mock. Let alone one where you try to predict when a team trades and who with.

When did Jerry say this would be a scouts draft? Thats really encouraging if true... and by if true, I mean, if he meant it.

It never should be a coach's draft. We missed out on some really good players because of coach's input.

There have been reports that they want more picks due to the depth of this draft. Trading back is one way of getting them. That would be better than trading away next years picks.

Jerry trading is never a good idea. Multiple trade downs means multiple opportunities for Jerry to get beat in trades.

Rumor is if the OL are gone the cowboys have these 5 guys on their radar

Vaccaro
Lacy
Reid
Carradine
Eifert

If you had to pick one from this group, who are you taking?

I could definitely see them trading down this yr. Makes a lot of sense.

He said at his last int, I can't remember if that was the senior bowl one or not.

Nick eatman repeated it last week and said he was told its going to be run by the scouts.

Yeah, letting that Jimmy guy make decisions was a bad thing. Never let coaches decide anything on players.

I am assuming this is some of the garbage you scooped up over at CZ, and if so the likelihood that's its accurate is about zero.

What would be the gain of Eifert?

2TE sets, helps the running and passing game, gets ready for Witten's decline and adds a new passing weapon to our team. Eifert is a stud, but only if he's the only top player left. I like Cooper much better. If it came between Fluker and Eifert, I'd have a tough call though. I hope we get Matt Elam in the 2nd.

IF (a big IF) they picked Eifert at 18 it clearly says two things:

1) They have a very high grade on Eifert, probably placing him somewhere between 6-12 at worst. Otherwise even if you had him graded at say 15-18, you probably wouldn't pull the trigger on picking him at 18 with the obvious holes at OL, S and DL.

2) Says they have serious concerns about Witten being a core player much longer. He's caught a ton of passes here and taken a tremendous beating over the years. Unlike a lot of TE's today he was also an exceptional in-line blocker. He rarely came out of games. And he had a serious injury last year.

I like this line of thinking and agree with it mostly. But I also think the pick would allow them to do more with the offense in terms of 2 TE sets and eliminating the FB position to allow the TEs to block and catch passes out of the backfield. I like the way NE uses the 2TE sets and Dallas wanted to go the 2TE set route but never really got the personnel together for it.

I just can't predict the first pick. It could be Cooper (my first choice). But I doubt that. It could be Fluker. We say goodbye to Doug Free and free up space as well as sign Clabo... that would make sense.

It's not the most popular idea, but Eifert makes sense too.

If we trade back, I suspect we'll grab Elam at 31 or so. I like him in the 2nd too.

Who knows. All we can do is guess. But this has been one of the most interesting pre-drafts we've had in a long while.
