Big reaction to my most recent column, “Your driver's license, vehicle information and lien holder were stolen in a huge data theft.”

I hate to deliver bad news, but this is likely the biggest hack in Texas history. Some 27.7 million past and present Texas driver’ licenses holders had their name, address and DL # stolen off a third-party website that obtained the info from state government.

The FBI and Texas Attorney General are investigating.

Thieves got the information from a Denver company. In addition to DL info, they swiped the VIN, color, model and year from your car, and the lender to whom you make car payments. This information is available on some paid databases, but this is too convenient. All the data on one giant spread sheet.

How did it happen? Did they get yours? How do you protect yourself?

That’s all in my story for you here to read.
