Being a Cowboys fan doesn't have to be an either-or proposition (e.g., actively embracing or hating the team).
It is possible for one's fan status to go dormant ... tuning in when things are interesting/promising but also tuning out when the ineptness of the franchise becomes unpleasant to watch.
