IRVING, Texas -- DeVonte Holloman has flashed with two of the Dallas Cowboys’ best plays of the preseason: a pick-six against Miami in the Hall of Fame Game and a diving interception at Arizona on Aug. 17.

He had a sack Saturday against Cincinnati, but it wasn’t the flash play that caught Jason Garrett’s eye. It was the sixth-round pick’s ability to make the everyday play. He was credited with four tackles, including a stop on three straight fourth-quarter plays.

“He seemed to be around the ball on a consistent basis, making tackles even though he didn’t return anything for a touchdown,” Garrett said. “He just seems to be playing better and better.”

Holloman will get another chance to shine in Thursday’s preseason finale against Houston, but those could prove his final meaningful defensive snaps in a long time because he will not be unseating Bruce Carter anytime soon.

But it is good to know the Cowboys have some depth.

Maybe we cut him to keep Danny Coale or Matt Johnson......just like we did with Adrian Hamilton last year after all he did was make plays throughout the entire preseason.

Sure would be nice to have him now as depth since we've moved to a 4-3.

Adrian Hamilton wasn't a draft pick and had no athleticism.

Is he even in the league anymore?

Do practice squad players get rings?

That doesn't seem fair.

He actually played in 2 regular season games last year but then was deactivated for the postseason.

But I think everyone in the organization gets a ring, if I'm not mistaken.

Matt Johnson is as good as gone.

I just wonder if Holloman starts pretty soon for us. Durant has not looked very good.

You could argue he is our most consistent reserve on either side of the football in exhibitions.

I know. My grandfather coached with Lombardi.

I think angst over Hamilton isn't warranted. He's not a good player.

My problem is that we cut a guy who was productive and consistent for 2 guys who showed absolutely nothing and were hurt. I get that they were draft picks, but Coale was a high draft pick and he's likely to get cut along with Johnson.

Hamilton showed enough to be a developmental type that was worth putting time into.

Durant made a pathetic tackle attempt the other day that is usually what you see from 5'9 DB's.

I have seen TNew make better tackles. The attempted tackle by the sideline on short pass was pathetic. He read it correctly, which is good, and then just got run over.

Yup, that's the one.

Instead of trying to hit the guy like a linebacker is supposed to, he dove low like a CB.

Is that where they picked up 15 yards after?

I saw the play. It's like he didn't even care.
