John Owning notes from the game:

- Julius Wood: Not only was he flying around, but I thought his positional maintenance in coverage was very good too. Very decisive player. I thought Bell was the opposite when aligned deep in coverage, he gave way too much space because he didn't trust his speed.

- I thought Josh Butler was the best cornerback in the game. He didn't get as much action as others, but he was constantly in good position.

- LBs were all a bit up and down, Curtis Robinson especially. Bit too much on run action and had some wonky run fits, but he played with physicality and was around the football quite a bit. I thought Barron was a bit more consistent but he had his warts against run action. James played a little bit wild at times, but he's easily the best athlete of the bunch and it showed up a few times.

- DL started off struggling mightily but improved as the game wore on.

- James Houston was the best defender on the field for DAL, imo.

Owning's notes on offense:

Alright, I'm done with the offense. Takeaways: -Backup OL is cheeks right now, outside of TJ Bass. Nate Thomas looks like he regressed. Drew Shelton struggled mightily. Ajani Cornelius wasn't any better. Trevor Keenan plays hard but not well.

- Camden Brown should be in your 53-man projections this week.

- MVS can't make this roster. Mingo showed well as a strong possession type but think that's one of the easier skill sets to find on the open market. Give me someone like Brown, who is a ball winner and separates better.

- Jaydon Blue was very uninspiring between the tackles. Does play with good pace or particularly good vision. No power to his game whatsoever. Malik Davis was basically the opposite (in a good way).

- Michael Trigg competed better than I thought as a blocker but still a long ways to go. Showed really strong hands as a receiver. That plus his big body could make him an interesting developmental talent. Hopefully he can find a way to contribute on ST. Would love he could beat out the "Snap Stealer."

- I thought Joe Milton outplayed Sam Howell.

To say he has been dreadful in his first two preseason games would be an understatement.

The really bad news for them is apparently he's been just as bad in practice.

Just breaks my heart.
