Well after having all night to think this through I've come down off the ledge some.

I still would have probably preferred Nolan Smith but after perusing all the Mazi Smith info and video, and hearing comments about him from various league people etc etc it sounds/looks like we got a real immovable object up front that has potential as a pass rusher with coaching and some scheme work. His athletic ability for someone his size is pretty impressive but it is perplexing that there wasn't much pass rush production in his two yrs as a starter. Michigan coaches say it's because of how they used him in their scheme, so we shall see.

The other thing is if you go back and look at Seattle's defense when it was really good and Quinn was on their staff and DC, they had 3 or 4 pretty enormous guys in the middle. Guys like Red Bryant, Alann Branch, Tony McDaniel and that little fire hydrant guy Brandon Mebane. None of those guys were superior pass rushers but they all held their positions and didnt get blown back constantly. Nobody pushed that front around. We now have a couple guys like that with Smith and Hankins.

mazi is not a sexy pick

jerry said that mazi was rated 13 or 14 overall on their board so i assume they followed their plan

micah wanted him, DQ wanted him

its gotta be a good sign if the DAL scouts love you AND the coaches and players love you

i also heard about a trade back w/ KC or LV.. and that KC wanted to pick mazi... you hear shit like that every year tho

Love Avila for us but doubt he makes it that far. Same thing for Washington, Mayer and even LaPorta, doubt they make it to 58.

Don't like the two RB's they list as best available, strongly prefer some others (like Spears or Miller, or even Kenny McIntosh if they wait till day 3)

Like the WR's and would add Cedric Tillman

Greg Cosell is very high on Mazi Smith. 21:01 mark

Cosell makes great point about snap counts, says he averaged 49 snaps per game vs the best opponents so in game stamina does not appear to be an issue for him (compared to some others guys, like the two GA DT's the Eagles have drafted this yr and last)
