I guess... But you could go OL in the first five years in a row, and have a great OL but nothing else.

Kind of like now. Our D is still putrid.

I hate to go all dbair here but there is still a lot of DL depth in this draft. We should get a starter at 47.

But will they start because they're good, or because they only have dogshit in front of them?

Besides, there could be a run on DL at any time.

I dunno. I know Martin is safe and should be good, but I'm not a fan of guards this high. And Free wasn't bad last year so if we cut him I don't know how much of an upgrade at T this is.

Zack Martin, not a sexy pick but a solid addition.

We need defensive help bad, but there's more depth at DL than there was at OL, and Martin was clearly the best OL remaining.

But Martin is likely only a G for one yr, then moves to RT next year perhaps.

Remember that Sully Bald Head guy (don't know how reliable he is) tweeted that there was a real possibility that we could see the team trade a pick in next years draft to acquire something extra in the 2nd/3rd this year because of the depth of the draft

Might be a good move this year.

Rich Eisen Podcast: Rich Eisen, Bob Saget

NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock evaluates hundreds and hundreds of football players in the lead up to the 2014 NFL Draft, and he's passionate about a lot of the ones that catch his eye.

One player he's seen a ton of in person, thanks to his job as a color commentator on Notre Dame football games, is offensive linemen Zack Martin. Though Martin isn't mentioned in the company of elite linemen such as Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews and Taylor Lewan, Mayock believes Martin will be off the board earlier than most think.

"I've been banging the table for Zack Martin," Mayock said on "The Rich Eisen Podcast" on Tuesday. "I had a bunch of scouts tell me before the Senior Bowl that he'd never get into the first round. Now they're talking about him in the top 10. So Zack Martin's a guy that I’m really excited about."

Martin (6-foot-4, 308 pounds) has risen steadily throughout the draft process since leaving South Bend and is well regarded for having the versatility to play inside as a guard or outside as a left or right tackle. Martin's height and arm length have many thinking he's best suited to be a right tackle or guard in the NFL, however, so he's had some ground to make up to catch the elite players at the position in the eyes of scouts.

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah, who rates Martin as his No. 19 prospect, tweeted this week that he believes Martin can be a solid left tackle has Pro Bowl upside as a guard.

NFL.com mock drafts have frequently pegged him as a potential fit with the Miami Dolphins with the 19th overall pick in the first round. Mayock thinks he'll be off the board long before then, though, and that teams may be jockeying to move up in the draft if they want to have a shot at landing Martin.

"There's going to be three offensive tackles off the board quickly," said Mayock. "I think Zack Martin is going to be gone in the first 13 picks. So I think four offensive tackles will be gone in the top 13, maybe the top 10."

Last year, a record number of offensive linemen were taken in the first round and three tackles cracked the top 10. If the 2014 NFL Draft wants to top that success among the big boys up front, it probably comes down to whether a team agrees with Mayock and picks Martin within first 10 picks.

1. ZACK MARTIN, Notre Dame (6-4, 309, 5.2, 1) – Started a school-record 52 games, all at LT. "Love him," one scout said. "Not a real bulky guy. All I know is he's got a great jam and can punch the hell out of you. Nobody beats him. Everybody keeps wanting to move him inside. Well, you better have somebody that can block those outside rushers." Height and arm length (327/8) make a move to guard or even center seem inevitable if not immediate. "Damn good," said another scout. "He might be as safe a pick as there is. I like him better than the (David) DeCastro kid (from the 2012 draft). DeCastro never could have played left tackle at Notre Dame." Two-time captain from Indianapolis. Wonderlic scores of 21 and 27. "Much better player than (Justin) Pugh a year ago," a third scout said. "This guy's a tougher, stronger guy. He can get you out of a game as a tackle but he'll be a really good guard."

I thought Johnny Football was #1 on our board?

I guess someone was lying

I will be honest, I pulled for a Manziel pick just to see a CZ meltdown. After thinking about it, Jerry had a top rated QB drop into his lap, but he wouldn't take him. Jerry deserves to go through some more years like the post-Aikman years.

Manziel may struggle in the NFL like Vick has. They're similar players.

So much for all that shit Manziel was saying about if the Texans skipped him. Looks like everyone is skipping him.
