How sad is it that it's November 1st, and I'm more excited about the draft than I am our game against Atlanta coming up. Thus is the life of a Cowboys fan under Jerry Jones watch.
1. Kansas City Chiefs - Geno Smith, QB, WVU
If you're Kansas City, you need to make sweeping changes. This includes the front office, coaching, and players as well. There's no better way to re-engage a fan base than by a new quarterback. Considering the success the Redskins have had with RG3, I suspect Geno Smith will build momentum towards the top of the draft board.
2. Carolina Panthers - Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
The middle of the defensive line has been a position of need for the Panthers for a few years. Most had them taking Dontari Poe or Fletcher Cox in last years draft, but they suprised and went with ILB Luke Keuchley (or whatever his name was). Now, they finally address the need and take arguably the best defensive player in the draft, and someone who will help keep Keuchley (or whatever his name is) clean and able to run free to the ball.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Matt Barkley, QB, USC
Although only drafted two years ago, it's apparent that Blaine Gabbart isn't a starting quarterback in the NFL. Under new ownership, and potentially a new coaching staff, it's unlikely there will be a lot of loyalty to Gabbart. I have this theory that not many have picked up on that to win in todays NFL, you need quality QB play. As such, you need to keep trying to find a star QB until you get one. And there's no better place to do that than at the top of the draft.
4. Cleveland Browns - Jarvis Jones, OLB, UGA
The Cleveland Browns are a bad football team, so they can really do no wrong in this position by just taking the best player available at this point. That would likely be Jarvis Jones, who at times is unblockable. Add to it the injuries the Browns have at linebacker, and he's day one major upgrade and starter.
5. New Orleans Saints - Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
The Saints defense is attrocious. They need help all over. They get some immediately with a player slightly under the radar now, but who's stock is sure to rise in the coming months. SEC lineman are struggling to stop Moore from making plays. He ought to make a lot of money when the Saints place bounties on opposing QB's.
6. St. Louis Rams (via Washington Redskins) - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
The Rams need to protect Sam Bradford, and that one tackle they drafted earlier #2 overall didn't pan out. This guy ought to.
7. St. Louis Rams - Keenan Allen, WR, California
The Rams have a defense they can win with in the NFL. But along with protecting Bradford, they need to give him weapons. When Danny Amedola is your leading receiver, you need help at the position. They get a true #1 in Keenan Allen.
8. Tennessee Titans - Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
The Titans haven't been able to get consistant pressure on the QB since the days of Javon Kearse. Enter Barkevious, which coincidentally is the name of Bud Adams oldest son.
9. New York Jets - Justin Hunter, WR, Tennesssee
The Jets suck. Especially on offense. Justin Hunter is an Alvin Harper clone plus a work ethic. The Jets will suck less next year because of this addition.
10. Cincinnati Bengals - Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
The Bengals would be so fortunate if Te'o fell in their laps. They have a putrid linebacking corps. Te'o is better today than Ray Lewis ever was. True story.
11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Dee Millner, CB, Alabama
Ronde Barber is retiring. That Talib guy is an inconsistant thug. And you play the Saints and Falcons four times a year. Millner joins Mark Barron as another young secondary piece of the machine that is Alabama.
12. San Diego Chargers - Johnathan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
Pretty sure the Chargers are losing some corners to free agency this year. Jammer I know. Can't think of the other guy. So they'll need to replace them and why not do it with the extremely talented corner from Missippi State?
13. Buffalo Bills - Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee
The Bills are horrid. I feel bad for anyone who goes there. They could call me and be like, Hey Midswat, want to sign a vet minimum deal to ride the bench? and I'd tell them no I'll keep my 9-5er thank you very much. Sorry Bray, but someone has to replace Fitzpatrick and you're the best QB remaining. Which is kind of sad because turns out you suck.
14. Oakland Raiders - Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
The Raiders are actually suprised this monster is still on the board and rush to turn the card in. Say goodbye to that one DT that Al Davis gave that ridiculous extention to that didn't deserve it.
15. Detroit Lions - Taylor Lewman, OT, Michigan
Remember how I was talking about how the Panthers have needed a DT but have been ignoring it? Same goes for Detroit and offensive tackle. Well, now they have the #2 tackle fall on their laps who just so happens to be a home town kid. Which sucks for Taylor because I bet he was excited about finally getting out of the shit hole that is Michigan.
