The problem is that by the time the defense is fixed (two years if they draft well?), the offense could be in decline. Romo and Witten can't play at a high level forever.

Well we lost because we ultimately didn't have enough good players. The Giants' d-linemen beat up on us and everyone else that post-season. And those linemen weren't drafted by their owner but rather a real GM. Phony GM Jerry and his scouts can only get us so far.

OTOH, you could make the case that the only reason he doesn't already hold the record is because of his Houdini-like escapability. Had Troy or someone like Bledsoe played the exact same games behind the exact same o-linemen, the sack totals would be astronomical.
