That's because gun ownership isn't an inalienable right in those countries. You make it sound like they have as many guns as we do but a fraction of the crimes. Another factor is that the vast majority of gun crimes in the US are committed by blacks and latinos--another thing smug Euro countries...

It's a waste of police resources because school shootings are so rare. More logical to arm teachers and other school personnel who want to be armed and can pass the "concealed carry" certification course.

It wasn't so much keeping him as it was the money. In all likelihood, based on past production, even they didn't think he was worth $8M a year. They only kept him because they were stuck (no viable OLB replacement on the team or in the draft).
