Did they mention why the hell they would do that? Reminds me of when the NBA went to a synthetic ball, and the players hated it so much they had to abandon it during the first year. But in this case the whole ball is still leather, right?

I think we could have kept him and IR'd him, but then he'd have counted on the 90. This way he wouldn't have taken up a roster spot. We just assumed no one would claim him since he was hurt.
