I think it was ok to pay him, just not the amount they gave him. He's a decent starter that can play 3 or 4 DL spots. At worst he's an outstanding depth guy that a lot of teams would like to have.

I disagree on both your points to be honest. If he doesn't play well he isn't going to get a huge deal, and he might only get a short term deal. if he plays well then it's a no brainer. If he's a franchise QB (which we may or may not learn for sure this year) then he isn't too expensive.

Apparently Dak has been working hard on mechanics all offseason. He's also coming into camp much leaner than his first two seasons in the league. I think he's going to have a good year.
