They claimed to have 4 hopefuls for pick 16: Barr, Donald, Shazier, and Martin, in that order. They were talking to Shazier's agent when Pitt called and drafted him. If that scenario is true, Martin should have been pick.

Considering the circumstances, Martin was the right pick there. BPA that fits a need. Some teams had a Top 10 grade on him.

He should but the Three Stooges said at the PC he will start off as third down rusher.

Grade so far...A- Two good players. One starter for sure. Lawrence will play passing downs and probably every down by season's end. Downgraded for giving up a 3rd (a starter) in such a deep draft.

2014 Draft- 2nd rd pick #34 overall- DeMarcus Lawrence DE Boise St

It's speculation and even if it isn't, it doesn't justify overpaying. Look at the D Linemen who were still available at 47. Wrong move with this year's class.

Because you have no idea where that #1 will be next year. We aren't the 49ers. A lot of things are going to have to go perfect for us to compete. Garrett will have suddenly learn how to coach. Marinelli will have to be the miracle worker so many want to anoint him. Tony Romo will have to stay...

I never want to. Short of acquiring a once-in-a-decade sure thing like Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck, never ever give up next year's one. Also, someone, maybe Broaddus, was saying one of Jerry's biggest pet peeves is having to sit out the 1st round and will not put himself in that position again.

You're forgetting about a huge factor, Garrett and his game management skills. The more pressure, the worse he gets.

Every team in the league is aware of the fact that this year is deep as hell and next year's draft looks like crap. Jerry would have to move next year's 1 most likely or hope that a team gets in a spot they weren't ready for and bails out (think us, Max Unger incident 2009)

Apples and oranges. If our D Line doesn't get to the QB fast, the QB usually sees a streaking WR running wide open while Jeff Heath is covering the wrong player and Barry Church jogging 10 yards behind the player. Earl Thomas is in QB's heads and for good reason.

James Brown and Bill Cowher are boring and Deion talks about nothing. Great choices.

Be patient and be smart. Too many DL left to have to trade up, don't give up picks. A 3rd rounder in this year's deep draft is a starter and a 4th rounder is someone who should be starting within 2 years. We will get a really good D Lineman at 47. Probably too much to ask for Jerry to be...

Rest of the draft DL: I'd really like to see us use 2 of our next 3 picks on the D line. Take your pick...Lawrence, Ealy, Nix, Tuitt, Hageman, Crichton, Murphy, Jernigan, Attachou, Sutton, Jeffcoat, Urban LB: The Shazier love was real so maybe looking for someone to start/push Carter. Justin...
