We're sacrificing the future with cap restructures

I don't think you are going to see the Cowboys as a fiscally responsible, every year contender until after Jerry is "removed" from the franchise. Not that it will necessarily happen under Stephen's watch but it definitely won't with Jerry in charge.

BREAKING: Tony Romo deal DONE. 6 year, 108m. 55 mil guaranteed

Jerry looks extra creepy in that picture.

BREAKING: Tony Romo deal DONE. 6 year, 108m. 55 mil guaranteed

I hear you but Brady is also 2 years older. Romo will be restructuring again in 2 years (by the way the deal is set up) and it will be a similar deal like Brady's. I'm just not seeing Romo as the villain you are suggesting he is.

We're sacrificing the future with cap restructures

While I agree with taking a run at the prize now with Romo, Witte, Ware, etc., you guys are right that there is a big bill coming. It won't be in actual money paid out but just cap space. I'd say in about 4 years in 2016. It would be nice to have a cheap quarterback (3rd or 4th round pick in the...

Flacco's signing bonus was $29 Million. His 2013 salary is $1M. Brady's bonus was $30 Million. His 2013 salary is $1M. Romo's bonus was $25 Million. His 2013 salary is $1.5M.

BREAKING: Tony Romo deal DONE. 6 year, 108m. 55 mil guaranteed

He wasn't a free agent like Flacco was, so he didn't exactly have the same bargaining power. He traded a smaller base for a huge check. Romo just did the same thing.

BREAKING: Tony Romo deal DONE. 6 year, 108m. 55 mil guaranteed

You do know Romo has restructured a total of 3 times to free up cap room for the team? Brady got a ton of guaranteed up front money ($30M vs Romo's $25M) to help free up cap room as well. He still got paid.

BREAKING: Tony Romo deal DONE. 6 year, 108m. 55 mil guaranteed

^because Romo is all about the money? He isn't about the competition at all. Really?

    Free Agent Bargain Hunting

I'll confirm later but I want to say $2M.

    Free Agent Bargain Hunting

Our draft picks took up about $5.6M last year and that was with a Top 6 pick, Claiborne, taking up $2.9M by himself. That was also for 7 draft picks, we have 6 this year. Don't forget we have some cap relief coming in June when Marcus Spears comes off the 2013 books.

    Free Agent Bargain Hunting

Romo extension freed up approx. $5M. Still possible gains from a Spencer long-term deal, Free cut, and Vickers cut. I wouldn't cut Free unless I had his replacement ready to sign (Eric Winston, Andre Smith). The rumor is Romo got assurances today the O Line would be upgraded. So who do you go...

BREAKING: Tony Romo deal DONE. 6 year, 108m. 55 mil guaranteed

All of this is meaningless if we don't upgrade the roster around these guys. Please don't anyone tell me about "improving through the draft" either. I'm pretty sure all 32 teams plan on improving through the draft. So far we've somehow managed to downgrade (maybe a wash?) Gerald Sensabaugh to...

BREAKING: Tony Romo deal DONE. 6 year, 108m. 55 mil guaranteed

$8 million is plenty. Can sign a free agent and still sign draft picks.

BREAKING: Tony Romo deal DONE. 6 year, 108m. 55 mil guaranteed

If true, that's better news than the actual Romo signing. It's sad that the fan base, the media, and now even the damn quarterback himself, has to point out to the Front Office that the O Line needs to be addressed.

    Andre Smith is still available.

Bales: Cowboys need to hit on late round draft picks

while that could be said about Wilber, we have seriously overdrafted some players recently. McGee, Robert Brewster, Matt Johnson all went much higher than almost everyone predicted and in the end, proved they were overdrafted (Matt Johnson pending).
