Battle for #1 overall pick thread

Right, I'd only do it if the QBs we really liked were already gone. If we pick top-5 and a QB we really believe in is there, take him now. Of course how do we know we can trust our QB evaluations, but that's another story.

Did you enjoy those three Super Bowls, dbair? I hope you did. I hope you did very much.

Pep, I'd answer that sure, this is the NFL so every team is talented. I'm not saying we're "far and away the most talented team in the league" like some people were saying in 2007 and 2008, but I think we're more talented than most teams. Our offense in particular is extremely talented. And...

    What ARE we building here?

That's exactly what he does. Early on, I think he bought his own bullshit. I think he believed the fairy tale everyone was spouting that this was a talented team held back by Wade the dufus and with his leadership and discipline it would take off. Then he realized it wasn't that easy, and...

Battle for #1 overall pick thread

I've even thought about maybe if we pick 5-6 or so and the top-top QBs are gone, trade down for a #1 next year plus some other picks this year. Not sure who will be at the top next year, but two first rounders should be enough to do almost anything. Jerry's so "win now" I doubt it would...

What would you offer, cmd? Either way, recent history shows it's going to cost a fortune to move up even a few spots.

See, I think in his heart of hearts Jerry knows he isn't good. That's why he hired Parcells. Problem is, if he doesn't really have the screws put to him he won't ever do it. That's why I think 8-8 plus the occasional winning year -- even though that's a piss-poor standard for success -- is...

But pep, we do have good players. We have a lot of talent. I don't think there's much problem with our drafting, do you? Jerry is a problem for sure. But I don't think some of the things he does are that detrimental to the coach, like him giving press conferences after games. Most of that...

Oh it doesn't make sense. But this is Jerry we're talking about. That's why I hated last year in a way. If we had a year like this after three years of 8-8, he and Steve might have been almost forced to do something. But now they both figure this year was just bad luck plus injuries, and...

That's right, we traded with SF in the draft, didn't we... Was that trading back into the round for Swaim?

Have we lost our own 5th, 6th, and 7th? I know we have some comp picks, but still. Pretty sure Cassel was a 5th, C-Mike a 7th. Can't remember on Butler. But the postgame shows the other day were saying we ended up giving a 5th for Cassel. The Jets got Fitzpatrick for a 6th. Edit, looked...

Potentially good news for all you Garrett lovers!

Not to get all serious here, but I have wondered lately how much Jerry really thought Garrett would be a great coach. I think we all agree the comfortability/family friend aspect was most important for Jerry, but did he truly believe Jason would be that good in addition to that? Maybe he did...

That's that Stretch Smith guy who used to be on Espn Dallas radio a lot. Worked for the team from sometime in the Switzer days to around the time Parcells got there as an assistant coach and then in personnel.

    Today we learned...

It was a good 24 hours. Jerry lost to two former coaches, Bowles and Gailey. Zimmer (and Norv) won big to get to 9-5 without a great QB. Weeden won a game as a third stringer after coming in to a 10-0 deficit. Hopefully Jerry is absolutely furious.

Wow, you're right. Looked it up and we basically got Tyron Smith, Crawford, Frederick, and Williams. Four players.
