I understand that Turpin made the pro-bowl, but I'm rooting for Deuce to beat him out as a returner.

If we have to start Deuce at RB, I feel he can help move the ball, assuming the OL is blocking well.

I feel that if we have to play Turpin, he won't do much at all. I don't he can even get off of press coverage.

At this point, (subject to change during preseason), I don't see Deuce as competition for Jones or Davis. I see him as competition for Turpin. And that is okay for a 6th round pick.

He makes the roster as a returner, and maybe a gadget player on offense who I think can do more than Turpin.

Why would you want Deuce to take over for Turpin? I'm tired of punt returners who can't take it to the house. Turpin is a threat and he has the speed to make make opposing ST's consider if they want him to touch the ball. We haven't had that in quite a while and it adds an element to ST's.

If Deuce's father wasn't a scout for Dallas, he wouldn't even be here.

Emmitt was also slow by NFL standards.

STOP!!!!! Emmitt had football speed and he was built completely different. I know you and others here know that.

Deuce doesn't have breakaway speed and you and I are seeing something different in the highlight film. I see a guy with a good head start who almost got caught from behind on medium range runs.

We'll see.........

This feels like a draft where JJ had too much input.

This feels like a draft where the coaches had too much input. So we take flyers on guys that the coaches think will fit their scheme but it didn't feel like we took the BPA. I've seen these drafts before........

So I watched his video

He’s shifty

We already have Pollard. We don’t need a smaller less durable version of him on the team.

I don’t see him bringing anything that we don’t already have with Pollard.
1) Pollard is coming off a major injury, which happened in January. He may or may not be ready for the season and even if he is, nobody has any idea right now how close to 100% he will really be.

2) Pollard is on a 1yr franchise tag deal. He may not be here for 2024. The draft is not just about getting guys to help this year, the draft is really more about building for the future, especially with later round picks.

I was getting excited as Torrance was still on the board as we approached our second round pick only to be disappointed. Starting Tyler Smith at left guard will work until Tyron gets hurt. That’s not if, that when! Then what? I pray that I am wrong. Maybe Farniok will be okay. I predicted correctly that they would take either OL or DL in the first round. I think we blew an opportunity to get a quality left guard in round 2. Hopefully Schoonmaker will be so good that I forget about our miss in the second round. Overall my initial impression of our draft is average at best. Like the Smith pick in round one. This feels like a draft where JJ had too much input. Should have put him on his mega yacht and taken away his cell phone. All of the will be a moot point if Dak does not quit throwing interceptions. I wish I was more optimistic but 27 years without so much as sniffing a Super Bowl has left me more of a realist.
The OL coach has already said Tyler Smith is staying at LT.

Someone else is going to be the starting LG, and that person might not be on the roster today.

He had a ton of long runs Dodger.

Not all his breakaway/house call runs were against poor competition. A lot were against the likes of Alabama, LSU, Texas and a few others. Naturally NFL defenses are going to be faster than what he saw at K State, but he is still going to get his share of long runs even with very minimal holes to run through. His cutting ability is just too good and he is difficult to get down.

Fans have been screaming for the Cowboys to stop ignoring the trenches. They didn't ignore the trenches.

They needed to get more physical on both sides of the ball. Seems like they knew that and said they were going to do something about it.

That said, they drafted at the end of every round. They really were never in position to get some of the best players. You can't control what other teams do. Hell we couldn't even draft a damn PK because the two or three best ones got sucked up well before most had predicted (especially Jake Moody)

I'm not sure why everyone is pegging Vaughn for kickoff/return duty, he hardly did it in college and I doubt we have him do it here. I think he returned a few kickoffs early on and thats it.

Turpin is an enigma. Yeah he is explosive but he is also stupid and late in the season he also couldn't be trusted to field stuff cleanly.

As for your last comment, I do not agree at all. They drafted Vaughn because he was a really good player at a position we needed help at, and it was late in the draft.

Sorry to take a deuce on your Deuce but this guy ain’t shit
Not sure if you are trying to be funny, but if this is a serious comment then obviously you haven't seen him play at all.

Dude was a great football player and was by far the best player on his team. Every team they played knew they had to stop the guy and almost nobody could.

I have my doubts about his durability because of his small size.

He’s shifty, I’ll give him that. But he appears easy to bring down once someone gets ahold of him.

I saw him get dragged down by single arm tackles and most of the time he was brought down by solo tackles. He will rarely see that single tackle type of play in the NFL.

He’s going to see a lot more multi person tackles, more speed, and more size in the NFL.

Its fine to question his durability due to the lack of size, but again he is short, he is not skinny and his legs are muscular.

I saw plenty of examples in multiple clips (many of which are posted in here now) of him bouncing off guys or shedding a tackle. I think many defenders felt due to his small stature that he would go down easily, but rarely did. He ran between the tackles plenty in those clips. There's several clips where 3 or 4 guys failed to get him down.

He isn't going to be expected to carry the ball 15-20+ times per game in the NFL, but it should be noted he averaged over 20 carries per game last season and didn't get hurt. He had nearly 300 carries last yr and 235 carries the year prior, in addition to 91 receptions. That's 619 total touches in 27 games (23 per game)

I see him more of a guy that gets 5-10 carries a game and 2, 3, 4 receptions here and there He'll be a spot player and

Deuece was sick. He officially didn't run the 40 at the combine. His reported time is 4.44. Smith was clocked at 4.53.

and

Zeke was time at 4.47.

I'll add that when it comes to speed, what also counts is how fast a player takes to get to top speed. It's sort of like shifting gears on a manual transmission (side note: it is a dam shame that car companies no longer offer a manual on most cars).

It should be obvious that Deuce gets to top speed in a hurry, and he has niftyness to his game. He's got the ability to plant his foot and change directions. He is tiny, but he lowers his shoulder, and he keeps his legs churning. He seems to know how to squirt himself through the hole.

I think about Cole Beasley and how his first thought after the catch was, "GET DOWN".

I don't know how long he'll last in the NFL. Heck, I remember Matt Johnson, who had nice size for a safety, barely even getting on the field.

But I am confident that if he gets blocking, he will be a hard player for a DL, who is 6'4 or above, to get a solid tackle on as the DL is also busy fending off his block.

I have no problem with taking a shot on him late in round 6, which due to comp picks, might have really been an early 7th.
