Cowboys move rookie Anthony Hitchens to strongside LB in wake of injury to Carter

Rookie Anthony Hitchens has already spent time at middle and weakside linebacker for the Cowboys.

This week he’s been working at strongside linebacker where he and Kyle Wilber have filled in for the injured Bruce Carter.

“I’ve played Sam all week,’’ Hitchens said. “It’s much easier now that I know the other two.

“I think it’s the easiest one of the three, honestly. A little more blitzing off the edge and stuff like that. I should be ready to go.’’

Carter will not play this weekend against Houston. Hitchens and Wilber will take the snaps at strongside linebacker because defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli doesn’t want to move Justin Durant (weakside) or Rolando McClain (middle).

“He’s learned all three spots,’’ Marinelli said. “That is the position flexibility you like to see.’’

He was overdrafted, but he is playing better than I thought he would and it appears because of the injuries he will at least have a pretty consistent role this year. In a year or so he may becomes a dependable starter.

If he is playing better than the pundits thought then that says he was underrated moreso then overdrafted.

:lol Was just about to say, no wonder Carter is doing better there.

How do explain Carter's performance in the nickel where he is making a ton of plays and there is no SAM? He slides over to the MIKE for that and is playing very well in my view.

I really do think that his issue in coverage were overblown particularly by Carter himself who acted weak willed under adversity. He got beat by Woodhead and then allowed himself to get baited in similar fashion with the underneath once more against the Giants but overall I think it a mountain made out of a relative molehill.

Fuzzy is there anything about the Cowboys you don't like?

This is where you tell me you hated that 50 year anniversary patch.

How do you explain even the coaches saying he's functioning better at Sam?

Maybe if you email them your analysis they'll see the light and move him back.

And while you're at it, you can inform them of a local player or two they haven't heard about.

Hayden starting.

Free's punch.

Romo taking upwards of 25 seconds up on the line every down.

Dunbar's size.

Hanna's and Murray's hands.

Martin and Wilcox's awareness at times.

Makes me think of you as a real asshat to demand that I badmouth the team in order to have credibility though. I see the negative. I don't just wallow in it like you do.

What makes you think I think he is not playing better? He is playing top notch right now.

That still doesn't mean that he does not have many of the same responsibilities in the nickel as he did last year as the will. Quite the contrary but sorry about getting in your way of shitting on a Cowboys player.

Him playing better in the same role this year does not mean he did not play poorly at times last year. Once again neither of you two address anything that I argue but instead categorize me as something -oh no I am optimistic- or try to go on an asinine tangent like you do here so as to dismiss what I say.

You guys are not the most intellectually honest people I have ever met.

I mean I called him weakwilled in the post and you conclude that here is nothing I don't like?

That is pretty asinine.

LOL So much drama!

All I said was maybe the move was why he's playing better. Really no different than what Garrett and Marinelli said.

Did you throw your toys around the room when they said it, too?

If he was impressive at any one spot, they would not keep moving the guy around.

And I said that his role in the nickel is much like his pass coverage duties at will. Your point is true in both circumstances.

Stoicism is not a virtue.
