Is Jerry almost getting worse? Still admits his almost blind optimism... Still wants credit for being an old oil & gas wildcatter... Still super proud of his family involvement and success (on the business side of course)... Admits he personally scouts players.

I like Scruggs bc he doesn't homer out and will ask some tough questions at times.

Some other good vids in the series, too. Scruggs says he talked to a colleague in Alabama who doesn't think McClain has changed at all.

There was one interview he did where he said he was "this close" to drafting Manziel. Heard the clip on the radio this morning, I'll try to find it. He said something to the effect that Romo could have handled the atmosphere if he had drafted Manziel, but that he's confident Romo will play for 3-5 more years.

The Musers this morning were confused by the contradiction. If you think Romo is good for those years, why would you almost draft Manziel?

Yeah, I saw that, it was on NFL network...

I'm very pro Romo but I almost think Jerry is right on Manziel. Of course it all depends on how he turns out -- if he can't play none of it matters. But I kind of think Jerry doesn't doubt Romo's ability but is more worried about Romo's back than he lets on.

Plus if Manziel turns out to be good -- again, huge "if" -- it's rare to get a good QB without having a really high draft pick. I know I'm pretty worried that when Romo is gone we could be one of those many teams with a low-top-10 pick that has to gamble on a Ponder or Locker, and that would truly suck. Wouldn't surprise me if Jerry is thinking the same thing. For all of Jerry's idiocy, one thing I think he does understand is that you aren't going anywhere without a QB.

I really dont think Manziel is going to be any good. The fact that Jerry thinks he is should be enough for most to figure this out IMO. Jerry is probably right on a player 1 out of 100 times

Yeah I'm concerned about Romo's health too... I can see why anyone would be... But if you are convinced that he's healthy and that he's going to play at the level you're used to, then it makes no sense.

I guess it just means Jerry is being less than honest about his concerns on Romo. Of course, he said back after the draft that there was no decision in not taking Manziel.

I love how he brings up the critique that, "Jerry doesn't listen to his scouts or coaches," then says Manziel was the top rated guy on their board. Like he's providing evidence that he doesn't listen to his scouts.

Yeah, I'll admit that QB is a special case especially when you've just given your guy a big contract. But how many times have we heard about not following our board just in the last few years? We know we didn't when we passed on Floyd, and now we know we didn't this year.

In this case he had to be listening to the coaches, and maybe Stephen. Of course the coaches don't want a developmental QB. They want someone who can help them keep their jobs right now.

He is a rookie QB with only 3 practices, he is going to be inconsistent. If you cant understand that then you are either dishonest or lacking in football knowledge.

Shouldn't they just take into consideration what they have at the position when they make their board? If you have a QB who you feel is going to be playing at a high level for 4 years or whatever, then any QB should be moved down the line until you hit a point where drafting a QB to trade him or the guy you have makes sense. If you have Romo and get Andrew Luck at 18, then you draft him and trade Romo. If you're rating QBs in the first round that you wouldn't take in the first round because you have a QB who you just paid big bucks to, then it just adds confusion to the "process."
