Yeah, every year seems to be an "okay, what do we need for THIS year" instead of "Okay, what do we need for the future?"

Jerry's ADD-like plan for this team changes too often to actually build anything worth a damn here.
But I'm talking strictly about putting the board together. The changing philosophies, hiring retarded family friends for coaches, loving injured players... None of that is on Ciskowski.

I'm actually wondering if Mid wasn't on about this being more about Ciskowski throwing the fit about Floyd last year. Especially combined with what you said about McClay being a primo brown noser.

It's been better but it's still not great.

This past draft, we had players like Knile Davis, Larry Warford, TJ McDonald, Keenan Allen, and Robert Woods completely off of our board and they all were very successful rookies. I get maybe misjuding these guys by a round of two but you're going to tell me these players weren't worth a 7th round pick? Those are some serious misses especially since Grandpa Kiffin coached McDonald and Woods personally and had to play against Keenan Allen every year. Allen is most likely the rookie of the year yet he isn't even on our board?

Well I'd have to know why they were off the board. Every team takes guys off the board due to injury concerns or just general knuckleheadedness and every team is going to have different thresholds for that. Davis I sort of assumed was injury, maybe the same for Allen. Warford I've never been about to figure out other than some people posting that they didn't think he fit our scheme, which doesn't make any sense to me.

And are we sure all those guys were totally off our board?

Anyway, no, I don't think we're "great" by any means, but when has "not great" been the standard for change around here?

So now we'll hit on 1 or 2 players every year but with different people behind the scenes.

I like it.

That's a good point but I wonder if those same players would be successful on the Cowboys. Development and position coaching is not a strong trait of the Garrett Cowboys. Look at what separated Marinelli from other coaches this year and what he got praise for? Coaching! Intensive conversion of abilities into NFL players in a short time. The rest of the league takes lemons and makes lemonade on a regular basis but in Dallas it's a novelty and overachievement. Those players might not have been given the reps or development in Dallas as Jason runs the Montesorri style of coaching where the offense learns on their own, at their own rate, and is responsible for their own development.
Jerry may draft snapshots of players he identifies in certain roles right now even if for special teams. He may not understand what the trajectory development of good potential into a good player is. He may not see what might be. Instead he only focuses on what is. Hence the Claiborne, the Dez, the Escobar, etc.

Tough to judge some of this drafted talent when you that your coaching staff blows. Ginger is not capable of coaching vets, so he surely isn't going to effectively develop young players.
