District attorney’s office seeks revocation of Josh Brent’s bond
Posted by Mike Wilkening on May 23, 2013, 8:25 PM EDT

According to multiple published reports, Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent faces a court date Friday as Dallas County District Attorney’s office alleges he has violated his bond conditions in connection with the auto accident that took the life of teammate Jerry Brown last year.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the district attorney’s office alleges Brent either has been in close proximity of alcohol or has consumed alcohol; either is forbidden according to the conditions set after Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter in December. Per multiple reports, Brent faced a $100,000 bond.

An unnamed source told ESPN Dallas that Brent did not consume alcohol.

Also, the Associated Press, citing prosecutors, reported that Brent is alleged to have tampered with an alcohol-detection monitor he is to wear.

Brent is slated to go to trial in September.

Judge opts not to revoke or increase Josh Brent’s bail
Posted by Mike Florio on May 24, 2013, 12:20 PM EDT

Prosecutors still may win the war, but today they lost the battle.

A judge in Dallas has ruled that the $100,000 bail paid by Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent will not be revoked or increased, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Evidence introduced at the hearing included testimony that Brent has failed on 22 occasions to log data to his SCRAM device, which monitors alcohol levels. However, there was no evidence that Brent used alcohol or that he tampered with the device.

Brent faces a September trial for intoxication manslaughter charges. He allegedly was under the influence of alcohol during a crash that claimed the life of Cowboys linebacker Jerry Brown.

Brent is not expected to play for the Cowboys in 2013, but he reportedly has been present at the team’s facility during the offseason. The NFL undoubtedly will suspend Brent, at least for a year, if he pleads guilty to or is convicted of manslaughter.

It could be a situation where his SCRAM device is constantly updating, and there could have been hundreds or thousands of times he had to log by this point. It's been about 6 months hasn't it?

I'm completely unfamiliar with the SCRAM device and have no grudge against Brent or DUI's anymore than the average person... but IMO, for this guy to even have a chance at redeeming himself and playing for the Dallas Cowboys again, he needs to be on his best behavior. If that means he sleeps next to this thing and jumps everytime it beeps, then that's what he needs to do.

failed on 22 occasions? well, that's gotta be an honest mistake.

I used to have the SCRAM that I put on voluntarily. Usually you don't have to do anything but go see your SCRAM case manager, who will download the info off of you.

Actually, that's not totally true, they give you a device to plug into your Ethernet at home and you have to swipe a magnet across your SCRAM bracelet; which will send the info via the Ethernet. Which I think is what happened here. Brent just didn't do that on 22 occasions.

So if he failed, they would have found evidence of him consuming alcohol. Which they didn't.

SCRAM is so precise that they won't even allow you to use mouthwash or take baths. Submerging the device for any length of time under water is considered tampering.

Doesn't need to be here.

BTW it's easy to not consume alcohol when your freedom and way of life are hanging in the balance. It's what you do after you aren't court ordered that counts.

Just because he hasn't failed yet, doesn't mean anything to me.
