In a conference call with reporters, ESPN NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. dismissed the notion that guards Chance Warmack and Jonathan Cooper will be around when the Cowboys select at No. 18.

Safety Kenny Vaccaro, who is projected to be the first safety taken, is falling in Kiper's eyes.

"To see them drop all the way down to 18, if they don't, Vaccaro could be there," Kiper said. "Vaccaro has slipped down, I think into the 20s, but he would be a possibility. I bet Sylvester Williams from North Carolina, you need a defensive tackle to fit that Monte Kiffin scheme. Then you look at the second-round possibilities, a Justin Pugh."

Kiper said the Cowboys need to upgrade the interior of the offensive line and believes Warmack and Cooper are "all going very high."

So to improve the interior, Kiper offers Pugh, from Syracuse, "who's a left tackle, can be a guard, can be a center. They have to improve the interior of the offensive line, Dallas does, and Pugh would be a very nice addition at that point."

If we drafted a guy with a Mexican name, Jersey sales would definitely increase in Texas.

Imagine if we had traded up and drafted Tony Gonzalez like we wanted to.

I don't like Pugh, but he seems like exactly the type of guy that Dallas seems to think they like.

At this point I'd like to see Jerry get drunk and start throwing darts at names.

I think he is a big school version of David Arkin. He is not a strong, power player and he is not going to get any push at the LOS. He should fit in well with the rest of the Cowboy linemen.

You can give an average Joe fan a copy of Kiper's draft rating and they could do a better job than Jerry. Jerry could save money and fire his scouts if he would tune into ESPN draft coverage and go by the BPA list on the right side of the TV screen.

Why do people still talk to Kiper?

Because he cuts his hair in the shape of a football helmet.

Actually, I'm kind of glad for Kiper. Now I feel a lot better in knowing that we will not draft Vaccaro or Sylvester Williams, and we will likely end up with one of those two guards, that he claims will not be there because "they both going in the top 11".

I forgot the player but I still remember how he was pissed and they had to calm him down because a certain player wasn't drafted in the 1st round that he projected as being bonafide, I'm sure it was a QB.

But he lost me when he hyped up Justin Beriault to no end.

I don't want either one.

I'm not sure I understand why so many seem to NOT want Vacarro. I haven't watched him play enough to make an educated opin on him one way or another, but if the stuff written about him is accurate he would seem to be a good fit at a position we've struggled with for years.

Maybe its the lack of the ints (which could probably be explained somewhat because of the way they used him there, on passing downs he was covering slot guys and not playing downfield) or maybe its people's obsession with his combine 40 time.

Ideally if we took him IMO, it'd be after a trade down though. Somewhere in the early to mid 20's, which would hopefully net us an additional pick in the 3rd or 4th rd.

If they use a first round pick on a safety, he damn sure better be a turnover machine. Vaccaro is not.
