Throughout the season there’s been much speculation about Jason Garrett’s future as head coach of the Cowboys. Names of Super Bowl-winning coaches like Sean Payton, Mike Holmgren and Jon Gruden have even surfaced as possible successors.

But Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones made it clear Wednesday night on 1310 Ticket [KTCK-AM] that Garrett is the Cowboys coach regardless of how the 7-6 team finishes the season.

During the show Intentional Grounding, Jones was asked by host and SportsDayDFW.com’s own David Moore if he could envision a scenario where it wouldn’t make sense to bring Garrett back next season.

Jones responded: “No.”

“I just think he’s done an outstanding job with this team,” Jones said. “There has been adversity in this season. He’s handled it well. He’s never complained, never blinked. I know our guys play hard for him. I don’t believe anybody has refuted that. No one wants to win more games than Jason. I know he’s disappointed that we haven’t won more games, but at the same time, we do have a winning record right now. We’re in the hunt.”

Garrett is in his second full season as coach of the Cowboys. The Cowboys are 20-17 since Garrett replaced Wade Phillips midway through the 2010 season.

I'll believe it when I see it.

But if they keep the status quo after this season, not sure I'll be watching much football next year.

He'll be back. They'll convince themselves that injuries were the reason for the performance and go at it again unless they just get embarassed these last few games

If he stays then everyone except recievers coach Jimmy Robinson and Bill Callahan needs to be fired.

Skip Peete is a good RB coach.

That LB coach Eberflus has done well with Lee and Carter, and Spencer's play is better this year than the past couple.

Boniol has worked extensively with Bailey and Bailey is arguably the best kicker in football. Despite the rash of injuries, I still think Woicik is one of the ebst trainers in football.

Other than them, I agree.

You're right. So that leaves the secondary coach Henderson, Decamilus, and probably Ryan. All of them need to be fired.
