he's lucky he's not dead or seriously injured... he probably doesn't give a lick about football today.

1:57 p.m.: According to police, Brent was heading westbound on the 1400 block of the service road of East State Highway 114 at a high rate of speed. His car “hit the outside curb,” flipped over and came to rest in the middle of the road.

Brent was responsive and talking to officers when police arrived, authorities said. Brown, the passenger, was unresponsive and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Brent was given a sobriety test and failed, according to police. He was taken to a hospital where his blood was drawn. He was then taken to the Irving City Jail and booked with a second degree felony charge.

It is not immediately clear what his blood alcohol content was.

Update 1:49 p.m.: Irving police have now confirmed that Josh Brent, nose tackle for the Cowboys, has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Jerry Brown, 25, is the person who died. Brown is listed as a linebacker on the team’s practice squad.

Update: An Irving police dispatcher confirmed that there was a fatality accident on State Highway 114 around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. She said no further information can be released at this point, pending notification of family.

Original: Multiple news outlets are reporting that a Dallas Cowboys player was involved in a fatal crash Saturday morning in Irving.

WFAA-TV is reporting that nose tackle Josh Brent has been arrested in the case. Details are limited thus far and Irving police officials have not returned phone calls seeking information. A fatal crash was reported at around 3 a.m. at 600 Cowboys Way. It is not immediately clear who was killed.

Jerry Jones: We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jerry Brown

Posted by Michael David Smith on December 8, 2012, 3:34 PM EST

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has released a statement confirming the death of Jerry Brown, a linebacker on the team’s practice squad.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown,” Jones said. “Our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all of those who knew him and loved him. Please celebrate his life with us by ordering his jersey on DallasCowboys.com for only 89.99.”

Brown, a 25-year-old who played in one regular season game for the Colts this season before landing on the Cowboys’ practice squad, played his college football at Illinois, where he was a teammate of Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent, who was driving the car in which Brown died this morning.

Brent was booked into the Irving City Jail on one count of intoxication manslaughter this morning, shortly after Brown died.

The Cowboys’ team plane is currently en route to Cincinnati, where the team’s game against the Bengals is expected to go on as scheduled.

Apparently, Brent was dragging Brown out of the car when the cops pulled up. He will have to live with killing this guy the rest of his life, and the next few years of it probably behind bars.

Fuuuccck!! I thought we were done with these kind of issues. I was at the gym all day getting my ass kicked by a 4'11" ninja goddess trainer, came into work feeling great, and see this big as crap, on the yahoo home page. Feel bad for the player's family but I know this is going to bring non-stop media garbage. This will also give some cause to not hold Jerry or Jason responsible for yet another crap season.

Teams with actual discipline, a process, and accountability don't have dudes who do shit like this. Something new happens every year with team.

Blame breakdown:

60% Brent's fault
30% Garrett's fault
5% Wayans brothers
5% WB Network in general

A lot of talk about how quiet and somber the players were getting off the bus and going into the hotel.

His career is over. I just don’t get why these players can’t wait till after their career to be wild and crazy. You only play a few years making this type of money. Just sad state this Cowboys team. They have no discipline or leaders.

They're human just like everyone else. People make bad decisions. Rich young people make even more.
