Mackenzy Bernadeau, new backup center
November, 12, 2012
By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

PHILADELPHIA -- For the first time this season, the Cowboys did not go with a backup center on the sidelines with David Arkin inactive Sunday at Philadelphia and Phil Costa out with an ankle injury.

It left Mackenzy Bernadeau as the backup against the Eagles to Ryan Cook.

“I rotate every day in practice, so it’s not something I’m not prepared for,” Bernadeau said. “With the team, scout team, everything. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been learning center and guard, so I wasn’t worried.”

Bernadeau has yet to play a regular-season snap at center in his career, but he played there some in the preseason for Carolina. Injuries prevented Bernadeau from taking snaps at center in the preseason.

How long the Cowboys go this route will be interesting.

Kevin Kowalski has two more weeks of practice before he has to be activated to the 53-man roster after missing the first six weeks on the physically unable to perform list. Costa is at least a few more weeks away from returning after dislocating his ankle Oct. 21 at Carolina.

One thing is clear: the Cowboys do not want to play Arkin, a fourth-round pick last year.

How bad is Arkin, that as bad as Bernadeau has looked the team has more confidence in him than our fourth round 2nd year guy.

We can't draft offensive lineman for shit.

Every year it's a clusterfuck. Why don't we put someone in charge who knows what they're doing? That's what I would do.

Remember when he was this great diamond in the rough who only needed a real weight program?

Good times.

Arkin must be awful in practice. Either that or he accidentally banged one of Garrett's nieces.

The Cowboys should have a contest or raffle where a fan gets to call in and select our 4th round pick. We couldn't do any worse if we tried.
