Miniscule shot at a tie notwithstanding, one of two things will happen on Sunday: We will win. We will lose.
Should we win, I say we buckle up and give an all hands on deck effort to make a run. Not because I think we'd win the Super Bowl, but if we could at least make a run, then you never know what would happen once we got in the tournament.
Winning would put us at 4-3, with a 2-0 division record. While we've been delivering lackluster efforts most games, outside of Atlanta the following week, there isn't a team on our schedule that has a significantly more talented roster. Washington and Eagles twice. Pittsburgh. Cleveland. A bad Saints team. And the Bengals (not in that order). No one there really scares me. But again, we've been an inconsistant, hot or cold team week in and week out, so who knows.
Still, going back to winning, we'd put the Giants at 5-3, but would have the head to head tie breaker over them, and they still have to play a heating up Packers team, as well as Atlanta as well.
But... and this is highly more likely.... should we lose, I think we should make really tough roster decisions to set us up better for the future. We'd be 3-4. Giants would be 6-2. It's highly unlikely we can overcome that, considering how well they are playing and how knicked we are at key positions.
I'd try and trade Ogletree to a receiver hungry team like the Jets. I'd try and trade Felix to a RB hungry team like Detroit. I'd try and trade Jenkins to a CB hungry team like Baltimore.
I'd shed older guys who probably have no real future with our team like Ernie Simms, Kenyon Coleman, and even the newly signed Charlie Peprah. I'd make it a youth movement accross the board to see who has potential in the league for the long term. If nothing else, give young pups playing time.
Draft picks are like gold. And the trading deadline is Tuesday, 10/30. Try and take advantage of that, even if we're only getting 5th or 6th rounders. We've done fairly decent in those rounds previously, and if nothing else, they provide ammo on draft day.
