Archer: Bruised knee kept Felix Jones out late

Bruised knee kept Felix Jones out late
October, 22, 2012

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

CHARLOTTE – Felix Jones was on the sideline for most of the Cowboys’ final two drives Sunday at Carolina because of a bruised knee.

Jones ran for 44 yards on 15 carries, filling in for an injured DeMarco Murray, but he suffered a neck strain on the second play from scrimmage and a bruised knee later.

With Jones slowed, the Cowboys turned to second-year running back Phillip Tanner to handle the running back duties. Tanner carried three times for 4 yards on the Cowboys’ final drive. His first carry of the drive was wiped out because of a horse-collar penalty on Panthers linebacker James Anderson.

The Cowboys are hopeful Murray can return this week against the New York Giants after suffering a sprained left foot against Baltimore. Murray, who was in a protective boot and on crutches last week, will have more tests today. In the season-opening win against the Giants on Sept. 5, Murray ran for 131 yards on 20 carries.

I was wondering why Tanner was in there. I figured it was because they wanted Tanners hard nosed running style in there. Should've figured it was because Felix was banged up.

We may not have gained a ton of yards by running it... But I liked Garrett's commitment to the run yesterday. I could complain that we didn't take enough shots down field given that commitment, but that seems petty given we won.

I think Tony is playing scared right now. He refuses to let it fly and when he does he's aiming it, trying to make that perfect throw rather than just let it go. Product of throwing so many INTs early in the season, Garrett probably being a terrible influence and knowing that he can't trust our legally retarded receivers.

We need to move felix before he is hurt and its too late.

Once he is hurt we will be unable to move him and then knowing this front office they will resign him.

yep the passing game looks a touch off.

between the line being poor early, wr running into each other on routes, not knowing the adjustments, dropping balls or throwing interceptions.....something has the passing game spooked.

I hope romo lets it fly this week, we are going to have to get near 30 to win and there is no way we run on the giants.

Why can't we run on the Giants?

bad matchup. I think because we lack the deep passing game and wont have murray they will shoot gaps and send more than we can block in the running game.

there athleticsm is the kind of thing we struggle with.

Hopefully we get great pass protection and throw the ball down the field early and make them play two deep. If so there will be lanes like last year i imagine. Chase blackburn sucks monkey balls but boley and kiawanuka are good players.

it just feels like without a big time passing day its going to be a rough day for the offense.
