Tony Romo in a nutshell

On that incompletion/almost INT on 3rd down in the 4th, he had Witten trailing in the middle of the field and Tanner open for a short dumpoff. Witten is about 2 yards deeper, although both are beyond the 1st down marker.

Tony forgoes the very high percentage dumpoff toss to Tanner to throw to Witten, even though he has a defender dragging into his throwing lane.

I don't know if the guy (Romo) has ADHD or something, but he seems to forget at inopportune times defenders that he should account for before throwing the football.

It's been 6 years and he still doesn't remember that no play, or short gain, is much better than an INT. Will he ever get that? I doubt it, as he's not a still-maturing QB anymore. He's had enough time to let that sink in.

Is he a top 10 QB, no doubt, but he's no longer a challenger to Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, et al for the top spot, and young guys like Schaub and Matty Ice may have passed him by already.

So the question begs.

Do we extend Romo, or start from scratch and get a young guy in here?

Thats an interesting question. I think alot depends on how the rest of the year plays out. It doesnt look promising to me though.

If the season ends without a playoff berth, I'd seriously consider trading Romo after the season. I would not give him a mega long term deal.

To me, extending Romo basically sends the message that we're still hoping that he develops his game and/or that we are *this* close to winning a Championship.

I don't see either happening since Romo is what he is and this roster is so depleted. So hopefully we suck bad enough to get a chance at a Andrew Luck.

Unfortunately, there arnt any Andrew Luck's in next years draft

Only problem is there is no clear franchise QB like Luck on the horizon. No one in college now who is a guaranteed star QB.

Barkley could be on Ryan's level. I wouldn't bet my house on that though.

Don't forget Schaub developed for a few years in Atlanta.

How long is Romo under contract? See if we could get Landry Jones in here and develop him for a couple years?

Saw the light on your boy Barkley?

Barkley might be good, but I dont think he's someone you can turn a team over to immediately and expect to see alot of positives

Not sure about his arm strength for the next level, he might only work in certain styles of offense

But having Orton around does give you some options. He's good enough to win with if you have a quality supporting cast.

I think he is under contract through the end of next yr, although next years cap charge is huge. They almost have to either re-do his deal and extend him or trade him.
