I did get to Hilton Head in time to watch the game, and there were quite a few Cowboy fans here to watch the game with at the bar outside.
As I said all week, i was really expecting the worst based on what we saw the previous three games. I was reasonably sure we'd get blown out by 2 or 3 TD's. Much to my surprise, the team far exceeded my expectations. The OL played its best game of the year by far.
That said, yesterdays game was the poorest officated game I have seen in years. It was absolutely pathetic and definitely cost us the game. Other than a few plays, we VASTLY outplayed the Ravens. Yet there was Mike Carey's shitass clown crew, doing what they always do when they officiate one of our games. Blowing call after call, making up phantom shit left and right and doing everything in their power to insure Baltimore won the game. In spite of them, we still could have won. Had this game been fairly officiated I think we'd have won by two or three touchdowns.
1) Shocker of the day had to be the running game, which was absolutely putrid the last three games. The blocking was really solid. Pass protection also seemed really sound. Phil Costa did seem to play pretty well, but all 5 as a group looked good for a change.
2) Great games by all the RB's. Made good cuts, ran hard and took advantage of all the surprisingly good blocking.
3) Romo had the one bad pick, but had a solid game all around. I would like to see them take more chances downfied though and stretch the defense a little more.
4) I'm sure some will complain about bryant's "drop" on the 2pt conversion, but he did get interfered with and I am reasonably sure that had that same play happened to any other teams WR's, it would have been called and not ignored.
5) On the refs, I just dont see how Garrett and Jones can watch this garbage and not complain. Some of those calls were absolutely mind boggling. The refs basically gave Baltimore two tds and the PI call on Claiborne had to be one of the worst calls ever. The same ref that made that call is also the one who ruled Felix Jones out of bounds on that early TD run (which was challenged and overturned thankfully). Chop blocks that werent there, phantom holding calls, bogus PI call (should have been one of the easier offensive PI calls ever to make).
6) Sux they couldnt get lined up right to try another play (or maybe even two) after they got down close to FG range on last drive. I think 5 yds closer and Bailey would have probably made it.
7) How does Joe DeCamillis keep his job? 108 yd TD return is just inexcusable and other than the refs, that cost us the game more than anything yesterday.
8) Defense played ok, but they still have almost no pass rush and still cant cause a turnover to save their life. Jenkins had a chance for one pick but otherwise, nobody really came close. (as usual)
I'm pleasantly surprised at how they played and it gives me some hope again that maybe they can get some of their shit together and still make a run for the division title. Then again it'd be just like them to come out next week and fall on their face against a poor Carolina team.
