Watkins: Can Dez Bryant ever become 'elite'?

Discuss: Can Dez Bryant ever become 'elite'?

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Dez Bryant summoned a reporter to his locker. He was ready to talk. But it also seemed as if he was ready to bare his soul.

He had a bad game. Make that terrible game.

The stat sheet says the Dallas Cowboys wide receiver finished with eight catches for a career-high 105 yards and no touchdowns in the Cowboys' 34-18 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

He was targeted 13 times. On three of those plays, he failed miserably.

It's these nights that leave you questioning whether Bryant can become an elite receiver. Given his unsettling background while growing up in Lufkin, Texas, the Cowboys gambled and selected him with the 24th pick of the first round back in 2010. Bryant's life away from the field as a professional has been a mess.

It makes you wonder if he's worth all the trouble.

Maybe not, because Bryant isn't close to being an elite receiver.

"Very, very, very, very, very, very average," Bryant said when asked about his Monday night efforts. "Yeah, I felt like, me personally, I could have played better and I feel like each and every week it's going to get better. [I've] just got to keep fighting through adversity. I can make plays and I know my teammates believe in me. Just got to let this one go and get ready for Baltimore."

this is why watkins is so foolish and so is the rest of that 103.3 crew.

Who is calling him elite? Who thinks he is elite? they are the ones who put these labels on guys and then later write articles using those labels to attack the guys.

We just need dez to be smart and good. be consistent.

Forget all this elite stuff. This applies to the whole team. The defense doesnt need to be doomsday or whatever some bandwagon fan who knows nothing rants and raves about. We just need them to be good and consistent.

So over Dez Bryant.

told ya.

if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck.

The fact that we had antonio bryant, keyshawn and then owens with the same types of attitudes really makes you wonder why they would sign up for it all over again.

then you realize the jones family is in charge and they like shiny things for the not so bright group of fans to follow and purchase jerseys of and it all makes sense.

Never seen a tyron smith jersey at the stadium ever. I have seen about a million dez bryant jerseys though.

Its just like that parcells on jerry story from a couple of weeks ago where he said he needed training camp in san antonio and not oxnard because of the dr.pepper sponsorship and how if they sold more soda they would sell more chips and food.

Parcells sent him a note last year saying I guess we dont need to sell chips anymore and jerry laughed.

By the way, I pay 6 dollars every game for a soda and 10 for a program. Programs are exactly the same as they have always been and they were always 5 dollars until they opened new the stadium. Now there 10. No explanation, just hey screw you we know you want it so pay us 10 fuckface....

go cowboys...
