Giants’ Martellus Bennett: ‘We played bad and still had a chance’ vs. Cowboys

Despite losing to his former team in Week 1, Giants tight end Martellus Bennett was his usual optimistic self on Monday as the NFC East’s cellar dwellers prepare to face the Buccaneers.

“I see room for improvement, so I am excited,” the former Cowboy said to the Associated Press. “Even though we didn’t play the way we wanted to play, I saw a lot that was correctable. It’s not like we’re bad football players out there and we need to get new guys. I think we played bad and still had a chance to get the ball back at the end and tie the game. I wouldn’t say we’re disgusted, but we’re not happy.”

Giants like to talk shit before games and then whine and make excuses when they get their asses beat.

I think he was responding to Justin Tuck's comment, which makes all that more idiotic.

After their season-opening 24-17 loss to the Cowboys, three days off didn't do much for the Giants' collective disposition. "I think every guy in this locker room is disgusted with how we played," Justin Tuck said [Monday].

Giants’ Kenny Phillips: Once Cowboys made some plays, defense didn’t play like a team
By SportsDayDFW sports

Veteran Giants safety Kenny Phillips, who didn’t practice Monday because of a sore back, said the defense played like it did early last season when everyone wasn’t on the same page.

“Once the game started, I don’t want to say it got away, but once they started to make some plays, everyone wanted to be that guy, be that hero to make the play for the team,” Phillips said of the 24-17 loss to the Cowboys. “We got away from doing our job that way we were supposed to do it, like if you were a corner just being patient, or being a defensive end and staying outside. Everyone tried to win the game each play instead of playing as a team.”

Safety Antrel Rolle said the defense has to start trusting one another again, which was the key to their play late last season.

“I think that was a wake-up call, knowing this league will present new challenges and different threats each and every week,” Rolle said. “Just watching football this past weekend, I think teams are coming out to play. They are coming out fast and playing extremely tough. We definitely have to step up, and we have to step up now.”

I think, bottom line, the NYG were shocked when the game was over Wednesday. All offseason they watched ESPN, listened to NFL Radio and read Twitter. They believed every word spewed by an adoring media. They thought the game was over before it began. Unfortunately for the Gnats, unlike the flood of fanfare surrounding them, the outcomes of games aren't based on Super Bowl jewelry.

Cowboys had 300 penalties and spotty OL play at points in the game and still won.

I said it before the game and its gonna be a problem for them all yr. They are going to miss jacobs. Guaranteed Jacobs scores that TD after the INT.
