Jason Witten talking about the Super Bowl again...

APCowboys tight end Jason Witten thinks he’s on a team that has the potential to win a Super Bowl and do it right now, and he says they simply can’t allow themselves to fall short of that.

“It goes fast and I will be damned if I let this opportunity slip away and not come away with a championship,” Witten said, via the Dallas Morning News. “It has been a heck of a run. But it’s time we grab it. That goes for all of us, the core group of us. That is what coach [Jason] Garrett has talked about. This group is trying to do it.”

Witten is one of the many people in Dallas who has talked this season about how Tony Romo has the ability to lead the Cowboys to the title, and how the Cowboys have to win it all now, before their window closes. But Witten also realizes it’s about more than just exuding confidence with words.

“Our actions have to speak louder than our words. None of y’all are believing it. Why should you be?” Witten said. “The approach we are taking is if we are going to be the team we think we can we have to go show it. What a great opportunity we got coming up September 5. So that’s the focus of this team.”

If the Cowboys’ focus is on their September 5 meeting with the Giants, that’s just where owner Jerry Jones wants it. And a win in the season opener would be a strong sign that the Cowboys don’t intend to miss their opportunity this year.

Most of the time I agree. Especially if it is Jerry spouting off about......well, anything.

But what do you want the players to say? Ultimately, the Super Bowl should be your goal every year. It is probably good that these guys are starting to see the window closing and are trying to create a sense of urgency. Those types of attitudes are infectious. So are the nonchalant attitudes that have been too prevalent in years past.

For whatever reason....and there are probably many reasons actually.....this team just falls apart at the end of the season/anytime they need to play clutch. Need to remedy that and start playing tough at the end of the year when it counts.

What the hell do you want him to say? That the goal is to hopefully be mediocre and maybe they'll get lucky and be competitive?

JFC man, some of you are the biggest pussy cry babies

You can watch witten say that on the videos I have put up.

They have been repeatedly asking ware, witten and romo about the window.

The dfw media for the most part is lazy. They linger on meaningless topics for weeks.

How about he just says "My focus is on the Giants. 9/5."

Exactly this. Superbowl or even playoffs shouldn't even be in the conversation.

All I can go on is my little high school experience. We ended up having a good team and going pretty far in Texas 5A playoffs, but the only thing we ever talked about all summer was the very first game of the season. Not the playoffs, not our district.

I know the players have to think about it, but the point is they shouldn't be talking about it. When you talk about the Superbowl, there's an underlying assumption that you're good enough to get there. I'd rather these guys consider themselves a .500 team who has to fight and scratch just to make the playoffs.

This is freaking ridiculous. Every teams players talk about winning a super bowl. I dont know why it creates such crying and whining when our guys do it.

I want players that want to win championships here. The problem isnt talking about it, the problem has been maybe there havent been enough guys who care enough about it. Give me more Jaosn Wittens.

Isn't that exactly what they are right now?

Yep, which is my point... Instead the narrative seems to be that we were so close to the playoffs and this year a full offseason etc is going to put us up there with the best teams in the league.

I actually think we can be one of those teams, but I wish the players would cut that talk off at the knees and say, look, we had some of the worst collapses in history last year and we didn't even finish above .500, so we know we need to play our best to play with the defending champs Week One.

And dbair, are the Titans talking about winning a Superbowl? Doubt it. And they were actually a winning team last year.

It's not a problem, exactly like the Super Bowl talk in 2010 wasn't a problem/distraction.

Well this is awkward.

I dont know, but if someone asks their players what their ultimate goals are, I guarantee you most of them would say "win a championship"

You are making a pretty ridiculous argument IMO

I'm fairly certain they are bold-faced lies.

No idea what a baldfaced lie would entail.

Anyhow every player/coach, etc in the league believes right now that they are going to win every game. And they're fine with that expectations. Hand-wringing fans "how could he say that" need to get the fuck over it.

I'm fairly certain they are bold-faced lies.

No idea what a baldfaced lie would entail.

The original term seems to have been bald-faced (bare-faced) and refers to a face without whiskers. Beards were commonly worn by businessmen in the 18th and 19th century as an attempt to mask facial expressions when making business deals. Thus a bald-faced liar was a very good liar indeed, and was able to lie without the guilt showing on his face.

The more correct term is "bald-faced lie" or "bare-faced lie" (bare is more common in Great Britain). It refers to a "shameless" or "brazen" lie. One where the teller does not attempt to hide his face while telling it.

It's just the last 5 yrs or so that "bold" has come into usage. It refers to typeface. It is used metaphorically in speech. In the same way that a typesetter uses bold face type to highlight specific text and set it apart, a bold face lie stands out in such a way as to not be mistaken for the truth.
