Rookies have to earn star

IRVING, Texas -- Jason Garrett understands Cowboys’ history more than most having played for the team for so long. He knows what the star on the side of the helmet represents.

At the initial team meeting Thursday, Garrett told the rookies that their helmets would not have the star, just as he did in training camp last year for the rookies after the lockout ended.

“They told us we didn’t earn it and I definitely respect that,” fourth-round pick Kyle Wilber said. “I definitely respect that. We didn’t earn our stars yet. This is our first day and just because we were drafted doesn’t mean we’ve earned stars. So we’ve got to go out there and compete like everybody else, like the veterans have and get our star.”

I thought this gimmick was lame when Parcells introduced it, and I still do.

I like it, let'em earn it.

I had no problem with it when Parcells did it.

I'm surprised Campoo never did this. He came up with the time clock.

I like how making the Cowboys is like the television show The Bachelor.

Only difference is, instead of getting a rose, we hand out a star.

I don't care eithe way..

It's weird that it's a story every year..you'd think theyd stop writing these same stories every year..

In other news, the cowboys will be wearing white jerseys for most of their games this season

Are we paying tribute to George Zimmerman, or do we do this every year.

:confused

They did the same last year and were roasted in the media for it. It's laughable, because Parcell's did the same shit and no one said a damn word.

To be honest though, which member of the media would even think about calling Parcells out on it?

He'd castrate them on the spot.

Unless of course you just mean nobody has wrote an article about it and in that case, who really cares?

Oh God, not this nonsense again.

I like the idea behind it but it's fucking stupid in it's practical sense.

Morris could take three shits a week on the field and he'll be given his.

It's not like players will go into week 1 without a star if they haven't earned it.

It's dumb because it's not original (Parcells started it) and casts rookies as second class citizens. You shouldn't have to "earn" the star anymore than you should have to fetch a veteran's pads. That's so high school.

Even the rookies make a lot more than your average white collar worker.

I'm just saying, there are a lot of professions that require the greenhorns to start from the very lowest rung of the ladder.

Well yeah, but they're not humiliated along the way or made to feel conspicuous. Exceptions would be things like "trainee" badges at fast food restaurants.
