This whole "give a rookie an important number" thing is dumb. The franchise doesn't retire numbers, there's just some unwritten rule on some. But apparently 88 and 94 aren't on the Aikman, Staubach, Emmitt level. Hell, RJ Dill is wearing 74 right now. Jasper Brinkley has 54. Tony Dorsett's son had a twitter meltdown a couple seasons back about someone else wearing 33. Darren McFadden is wearing 20.

If the team wants to retire numbers, then retire numbers. But don't pretend they mean something when you give 88 to Antonio fucking Bryant and Jackie Harris.

No doubt the unofficially retired number practice of the Cowboys lacks coherence. With the exception of 12, 74 is or should be every bit as "sainted" as any other.

74 is given in TC as a last resort. The few times that player had made the opening day 53, he was immediately assigned a new number.

8, 12, and 22 aren't given out at all.

Idgaf about retiring numbers - although it would be odd seeing another #8 under center.

I just think if you're a HOF'er for a team, like Ware was here, then at least wait a few years before handing out the number again.

When it is said and done, they don't use those in the regular season. They use it in preseason when nobody really should notice except those who might take exception.

Only watched first half so far, but Gregory tore it up. Has one sack, nearly had one or two others and drew two holding penalties.

I know its only preseason, but he clearly looks like an impact player. If he stays clean and continues to work hard, he has the looks of a probowl caliber pass rusher and a major steal where we got him.
