IRVING, Texas – With his first of two sacks of Eli Manning on Wednesday, DeMarcus Ware became the second-fastest player to reach 100 sacks in the NFL, and the 28th player to reach the milestone.

Ware accomplished the feat in 113 games, 17 more than Reggie White’s 96. White was already a seasoned pro by the time he got to the NFL, though, having spent two years with the Memphis Showboats of the USFL. Ware said it’s an honor just to be thought of in the same sentence as White still strikes him as an honor.

“Being even in the midst of Reggie White,” Ware said, “that’s a guy I looked up to, the way he played the game, the demeanor, it’s just a great honor.”

Ware has the most sacks of any player since he got to the NFL in 2005, posting 8.0 as a rookie, followed by seasons of 11.5, 14.0, 20.0, 11.0, 15.5 and 19.5. He just turned 30 on July 31.

“You’ve always got to think about consistency,” Ware said. “Being a pass rusher, sometimes you can fall off the map as they say, but being able to try to do it every single year.”

The NFL record for career sacks is 200.0, held by Bruce Smith, who took 115 games to reach the 100-sack milestone.
