According to Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities,in May Vikings cornerback Cedric Griffin said he was hoping for a "miraculous comeback" that would allow him to play in the season opener September 9. It doesn't look like Griffin is going to get that miracle.

Asked a general question after Monday's morning practice about returning all 22 staters,, defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier said, "Well, we're going to be missing one guy in that first game -- Cedric Griffin won't be participating. He was a big part of our success a year ago." Griffin, who tore his ACL in the NFC Championship game against New Orleans, was always a long shot to be ready only seven months after knee reconstruction. But Griffin had been hopeful he'd be ready for training camp and expressed frustration over the weekend about being placed on the active/physically unable to perform list.

Griffin , afifth-year cornerback, has been running on adjacent practice fields throughout camp. Monday he was wearing a bulky brace on his knee while following Frazier in and out of the huddle during team drills. "I think he just wants to get a different perspective " said Frazier. "He's not used to sitting and watching."

Griffin has missed only one game in the three seasons he has been a full-time starter. In his place, Lito Sheppard has been getting most of the reps in camp.
