** Players were in helmets and jerseys for the afternoon practice.

** Before practice, Stephen McGee and Marcus Dixon played a little game of HORSE, seeing who could throw a football into a trash barrel from 35 or so yards away. I saw Dixon make one attempt. McGee was 0-for.

** During the special teams' portion of practice Kevin Ogletree, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Terence Newman, Patrick Crayton and Jamar Wall worked on returning punts.

** Sean Lee closed fast on a throw from Tony Romo to Jason Witten to start the team period, causing the tight end to lose control of the ball.

** Romo made a good read on a dump pass to Marion Barber after all of the linebackers vacated the middle of the field to give Barber a good 20 yards of open space to run after catching the ball.

** Only one interception in the afternoon and it came after Miles Austin bobbled a quick pass from Jon Kitna. Bradie James ripped the ball away from Austin for the quick and quickly took a knee because it was fourth down and he did not want to risk a fumble.

** Patrick Crayton continued his strong play. He and Romo played pitch and catch from the slot on a number of occasions on Wall. Kevin Ogletree had another strong practice but could not come up with an out route from Kitna that went through his hands.

** After sitting out the morning workout, Martellus Bennett had an active afternoon session. Flexed out as a wide receiver, Romo threw a "smoke" pass to Bennett, who had a 10-yard head start on safety Barry Church, who was too far off the line.

** As the first-team line went the length of the field in the last team period Barber started it off with a run and two catches out of the backfield. On the last catch, Crayton stayed in as an extra blocker for protection.

** Sam Hurd had the catch of the day for a touchdown with great body control of a deep Romo throw. While being pressured by Owusu-Ansah he was able to get his feet in bounds for the score.

** Anthony Spencer was limited by a sore shoulder in the afternoon, and maybe it came when he deflected a screen pass from Jon Kitna.

** Felix Jones closed the last play of team period with a touchdown catch on a swing pass from Romo. As he made the grab, Jones lost his footing and kind of rolled into the end zone. The closest defender was defensive end Marcus Dixon, so there had to be a secondary breakdown for him to scramble into the end zone.

I think it's going to be hard for the young guys to beat him out, maybe Holley has the best chance. But Holley has been playing good on special teams as well.
